No. But it does make this amazing sound that reminds me very much of the noise made by a Light Cycle from TRON.

It was exciting in ways that I could barely comprehend. I have been generally nonplussed about EVs until driving the Taycan. I am fully here for this electric future.

That’s tougher to answer definitively. Yes, because it feels so much more like a car than a Tesla. The quality is what you expect from that kind of price. But $150k plus is still a tough ask.

I think the “base” Taycan coming later at $90k is a much better proposition.

Wow it’s amazing how much turbo technology has improved these days.

Jokes aside, how bigly is it?  Is interior room smaller than, say, a Panamera?   I imagine it being comparable to a 3 series but I’m not at all clear.

It does feel a bit large in tight quarters and visibility anywhere other than ahead is less than ideal. Even with all the parking sensors and aids it would be a frustrating car to own in the Old World.

But exploiting gaps in traffic is a giggle. Even in max- range mode it still scoots with even just a gentle prod of the go-pedal.

Electrons are quick little fuckers.

It dimensionally between a 911 and a Panamera. The back seats are use full for two small to medium adults. Large/tall people would not appreciate a long trip back there.

No. I honestly didn't want to give it back to the dealership. But seeing as it work for them, they knew where to find it when I drove it back to work Monday.

Yes. I have been smitten. I am plotting how to sell the house, the wife, other people’s children; it knew it would be good. But I was not prepared for just how good it is.

Have you driven a Taycan? How would you know?

Also we will eventually run out of petrol. Or at least close enough to that point to where driving the 959 becomes impossible. Amazing as the 959  is, if the Taycan is the future we can expect, I am glad it is coming.

We have a Model 3 that was traded in here as well. I’ve driven it a bit around the lot to move it onto our charger. I can understand the appeal.

But while it is cool, it comes across like a new bit of tech not a car; it makes me feel like I’m driving a new iPhone. Whereas the Taycan is very much a Porsche first. One that also happens to be an EV. It feels special. There is such a sense of drama about it.

Maybe if I were in the market for a Model 3 I would feel differently. I will admit I am biased for Porsche because it’s Porsche.

How’s the steering? How is the front seat adjustability?

I’ve driven the Model X performance, and a few years ago a Model S P85D. Both amazing. So I can’t wait to see how good the Taycan is. I want to drive a 4S though, since that is at a far more realistic price point.

Not having driven either of those Teslas, I will admit I do not have the full picture. But it feels like a Porsche first above all else. The steering is nicely weighted. The effort was perfect. You get enough feedback to feel connected to the road. But it is a large vehicle. And is fairly heavy. So it won’t feel like a 911 either. I’d have to drive a Panamera to compare.

Tesla has done amazing things to bring about this EV revolution. They make decent products. But this is a Porsche and it feels like it. Tesla has a long way to go to come close to that level of quality and feel in their cars.

The seat has the normal range of adjustment. But like all cars today I still felt like I was sitting too high even with the seat all the way down. Some of that is the skateboard platform raises the interior. But everyone has the same problem with seating position, even in very low cars. I’m 6-foot and weigh about 210. I have average legs and torso (30-inch inseam). I didn’t feel cramped once I got everything adjusted. But I also would be just fine sitting a bit lower and more vertical rather than needing to recline the seat to not feel like the roof is eating my hair.

None of that is to say it is uncomfortable to sit in nor to drive. I would not feel bad about taking a long (ish- it is an EV after all) trip in one.

:( Yikes. I’d encourage you to keep it in the bookmarks anyway, as the worst commenters aren’t indicative of the staff at all. The staff is a bunch of good folks and I like the work they’re turning out!

I’ll be honest—I haven’t been reading a lot of the comments (the stack of applications and list of to-dos has destroyed my life ), although do I flag the really bad ones I see when I see them . (I don’t have a banhammer there.)

Can you drive a tarted-up Tesla for comparison? I'm still in shock after flooring one on a long straight, and that was right after renting a Hellcat no less. I'd love to have that sensation along with Porsche interior quality
