Six years ago I was transfixed by a mystery sports car I saw in the side lot of a mechanic shop and now I own not only one but two of them! Here’s my first video about the Hopeful Opel where I explain what I’m working with and what I plan to do with it.

It’s not THAT light. Like 2,100 pounds.

The Opel GT is a great car. It handles well, and has ample power. I had a red one when I was 19, and drove it across the country from Pennsylvania with everything that I owned in the back - two guitars, a small World War II surplus tent, a sleeping bag, pillow, and a duffel bag full of clothes. I meandered for about three months before landing in Oregon.

Good luck on your project.

If a Hayabusa engine can drive a Miata , surely a litre-bike engine can power an Opel GT, right?

It’s not the engine you have to worry about but the trans. Unless you are finding a creative way to use a regular car transmission.

Great story! I can’t imagine moving in one, they’re not exactly spacious for cargo.

That’s what the Miatabusa project did, mated the Hayabusa engine to the Miata transmission. They replaced the original transmission input shaft with a flywheel adapter and removed the rest of the gearbox.

This sounds about on par with a David Tracy project. At least you have a parts car, though. Good luck!

Thanks! Yeah 1.5 years is the goal in my head. This won’t be a three-month thrash kinda deal.
