I’ve got four interviews lined up this week, some for positions I’d really enjoy, others...because I need a job.

After Valentines dinner on Friday, w e headed down to Granville Island for Saturday. Granville Island is my favorite place in Vancouver to spend time/money.

We snagged a room with a view of the ocean/city and went out and pretended I was...still employed.

If you ever visit Vancouver, Granville Island is a must go. A former industrial park/rail yard, it is a place where it seems that the only things that exist are the arts, food and drink. It can be a little steep, but it’s worth it.

It’s got a great mix of rusty old warehouses, public art, shops and a market, all with a very active boatyard and cement factory packed into a small part of Vancouver.

The hotel we stayed at is nice, we were there recently for a wedding so knew our way around it. They brew their own beer in house and we stayed overtop of the brewery.

Today when we got back home, I cleaned the ST for the first time since we moved here. I had cleaned the Forte & Sportwagen on Friday, so currently the whole fleet is looking nice.

If any Vancouver Oppo’s are around this week, I’d be down for grabbing a beer or something somewhere.

Also, a reminder the Vancouver International Autoshow is in a little over a month.

You’re taking UI too, right? You’ve paid into it, use it.

I’m still not minding being able to do some errands or visit the rink during weekdays when things are less crowded. I know it’ll be over soon enough, enjoying a break from burnout.

I’m still planning on attending the show, too. I’d like to spend a few nights, but haven’t worked it out yet.

I’ll have a few days there in October, so I’ll need to hear recommendations for how to spend time. I’ve heard that there is a great anthropology museum in Vancouver.

Look into it, I see it as an earned benefit, and I suspect it is easier to get there than here.

I’m hitting cabin fever off and on now, as I don’t want to spend money on a vacation, but I’ve been trying to find distractions (cheap online computer course, etc). Also here anyway, some places are moving slowly with hiring even though there are plenty of positions open - an old co-worker just started a couple weeks back for a position he applied for in November. You might get some relaxation time whether or not you want it :)

I seriously hope you’re able to quickly get back on your feet. However, now is the time to buckle down and stop pretending. I know you enjoy your lifestyle but lifestyles occasionally need an adjustment.

You should working seriously to purge that extra car and take it as a lesson to never again purchase an undesirable econobox as well. There was a reason everyone was advising you on options when you wanted that Impreza.

I think I’ll hang onto the Forte for now, it will be a chip down the road should I need more cash on hand.

Of course I’m worried a bit, but I have a month and a half severance and had interviews scheduled within 24hrs.

I also have a few "oh shit" cards that I'm hanging onto should I urgently need employment

I’m going through the same process at the moment (albeit while still employed) but since we’re all damn adults there are jobs both in the ‘I’d love to do’ and the ‘dammit I need a job because bills’ categories.

I honestly can’t remember whether we went to Granville island when my family and I first visited Vancouver (back in aught-eight). I think we did. I remember an art school tucked underneath a bridge.

My cousin’s husband (a composer) used to have an office/studio on Granville Island. He loved it there, and a few of his friends still have places.
