Is this how you install software updates?
As seen at the Pittsburgh Auto Show. Unfortunately, when I pressed the button, it did not eject
.
Not a flattering angle of, frankly, a not-particularly-attractive car
The handles are also very low on the doors, as can be seen above.

So, I don’t see the tiny hole you poke a paper clip through to force the door open when the disc jams in it...
Maybe somebody needs to tell Musk about paper clip technology?

I can hear the stripping gears in that picture. Hopefully those pop out via solenoid and not motor, but I have doubts.

For some reason, whenever I see “I-pace” written, I want to pronounce it with an Italian accent in my head so it comes out like “ eee pachay”

The “engineering teardown” on the Tesla implementation of this terrible idea is hilarious— a maddening mish-mash of gears, actuators, micro-switches, linear motors, sprockets and badly-spec’d wiring materials.
Given the history with Jag I can’t imagine it’s much better.

I remember Land Rover showing a video of theirs in action and they actually specified the thickness of ice the handles could blast through

CD drive? All I see is a cup holder.

On an EV, with all that battery power, you could imagine a well-placed heating element weakening the glacier around the door handle, too.
I think the “Tesla support recommendation” is to softly pound on the ice with the butt of your hand. A manual override of some sort seems warranted...

Agreed. I thought vehicles with electric handles had a mandated physical bypass. At least the current gen corvette is an example on the interior.

I was there yesterday! I was disappointed the i-pace was locked.

Yeah, they’re using CD keys.

That’s a Model 3 (S and X don’t have the bit that sticks up at the back), so it’s just a lever, you push at the back to get the front to pop out. No motors or solenoids at all there, all manual operation.

Saw an Evoque yesterday with it’s handles stuck out. Don’t know if that means the owner left their keys in the car, or if they just don’t work right in the bitter cold...
In any event, a pretty similar look:

Do I have to type in a serial number from the booklet to get it to start?

It was pretty good. I’ve not been to this one before; typically some friends and I go to Detroit in January, but with that moved into the summer we figured this would be suitable early-year car show-
ing. There were a few locked cars that were surprising, considering some of the other stuff that wasn’t locked (s-class, supra, $100k trucks, etc)
.

That does look like the same part, more or less. I’m glad they come straight out and not at an angle or anything, really helps with the disk-drive aesthetic

No, the serial number is on a flimsy and small piece of paper in the CD box that you lose immediately
