I don’t like being sick, although after last year you’d think I’d be used to it by now. It’s amazing how something as simple as the common cold (at least I hope it’s just a cold... ) can knock one down to a level of complete uselessness in just a day or two.
Insurance is long gone, and I’m not going to pay the $764/mo they want for the COBRA coverage when I’m on unemployment and need that money to keep a roof over my head. I did try to apply for an insurance plan I had years ago when I was unemployed, but my UI payments mean that I’m over the income threshold by a whopping $80...

Ugh. I hear you. I’ve had a very meaty/chunky cough, going on two weeks now.
At least up here in Canada, I'm not worried about going bankrupt every time I get sick.

Sorry to hear that! I’m going on nearly a week with this cold and I’m still not out of the woods yet . This has been the worst in years.

The health insurance shitshow might be the greatest failing of modern American society, if not the greatest, certainly in the top 5.
My COBRA ended up at something like $600+, and even the basic not so hot policy I am on is close to $400. I was thinking of living on the edge, but I am a broken down old man who plays hockey and goes to the gym now and then, one false move could be a problem, I’d rather a 6K deductible than a 20K bill (that people in mature developed just societies don’t have to worry about).

Keep your fluids up, if you’ve a mucus cough, it’ll help soften and aid dislodging any mucus attached to the lung walls. Slices of cucumber in water kept in the fridge will keep your fluids and electrolytes up.
Eat and drink plenty of rich vitamin C fruits such as oranges and blackcurrants, get plenty of sun for vitamin D and drink milk for the calcium (the vitamin D will aid processing the calcium).
Keeping warm maybe uncomfortable if you’ve a fever but it’s one of your bodies natural natural defences.
Avoid big meals as it reduces the bodies performance at fighting any virus as it tries to process the food.
Take care okay.

Soup (water-based, not cream-based) , Pedialyte, and a marathon of old Top Gear episodes. It worked for me not so long ago.

I finally went to the clinic this morning after coughing up what looked like a piece of lung. Seriously.
My pulse ox was down to 94%, so the doctor gave me an albuterol treatment, then sent me home with an inhaler, nasal spray, an antiobiotic, and cough syrup with codeine. She told me to stay home through Wednesday and if I’m still coughing by then, come back and see her again.
I’m sorry you’re having to go through your illness without insurance. I hope you can get through it without your symptoms getting worse.
