Now that the job that I bought the Kia for has ended and the $600 a month car allowance that more than covered it along with it, I find myself contemplating the Kia’s future a lot.
I’d like to sell it, but the pricing that I’d be asking for on the private market ($12K CAD?) Is higher than a lot of people can afford in one lump sum. Additionally not a lot of demand for a manual prev. Gen Kia with no AC.
I could look into selling it to a dealer without trading it in, but they will severely low ball you and despite the good deal I got on the car, I could lose a bit of cash.
At the same time, it would also be a good move to keep it. It’s a decent fall/winter commuter and I could just insure the Fiesta during the summer and store the Kia. This is of course, dependant on the job I take, but no matter what, my days of adjusting are over.
How would Oppo get rid of a car that is low demand and most people in their region can’t afford without financing? Cost of living in Vancouver is high and most people are living paycheque to paycheque.

Some people may be willing to just get financing through their bank from the car, but idk how much demand there is.

I don’t believe we have that here. We have a very restrictive regime in terms of insurance

Sell it to CarMax?

This is tough. I’d say go cheaper private party, but who wants a manual transmission car that has no AC? I’m just being honest.
Career choice: car sales. You know a lot about cars and the behind-the-scenes. Learn about selling and closing, and see if you like it. If not, you can always leave.

Park it in a rough area and “forget” the keys inside?

Insure it, park it somewhere with the keys in it, then put cx-3 badges on it.
We all know how this will end up.

I would give the various options a shot - try dealers/car max etc, then list it privately. I suspect you’re right that it will be a tough sell, but you only need to find 1 manual enthusiast for it to work.
I wouldn’t give it up for a lowball dealer price unless you really get into a cash crunch.
If it was me, I don’t think I would keep it unless I felt really good about landing a good job quickly.
Good luck!

I sold my 128i to Beepi because no one else was interested. I’d at least try to private sale it and maybe someone will come along. That said, there’s a reason you got a great deal on it when you bought it; I would expect any potential buyer to want the same.

I've thought about car sales, but I'd have to sell a lot of cars to be able to keep the lifestyle I have.

Sadly no CarMax, beepi or carvana style businesses up here. At least, not in BC.

There are listings but seems like all of them are just rental companies.

$20 burner phone for calls/text mess ages and an ad on Cargurus or autotrader - both appeal to more selective buyers imho.
I’d drive it off a bridge into an icy river and take my chances before I’d attempt listing it on craigslist or facebook and deal with the spammers/scanners/crazies .

I’d just explore my options. Go ahead and post it for sale, that’s cheap. See what local dealers will offer (I think you’re right that you’ll get lowballed, but it doesn’t hurt to check).
I don’t think you need to worry too much about people being able to afford it, interested buyers should still be able to get a loan if they want it.
It could be an appealing choice for someone who wants to get a car for their teen. Newish presumably means reasonably safe, learning to drive a manual might be good for a beginning driver, and it’s basic enough that they don’t feel they are horribly spoiling the kid.

Consider letting it go for less. If it’s a financial burden to keep, then you need to calculate the minimal dollar amount of sale that still makes it financial ly logical to part with, compared to keeping it. You’ll be employed soon, it’ll all be fine, but extra cash on hand after an income shock is never a bad thing.

Don’t sell the Kia, you have an amazing die cast replica now.

I was going to suggest some kind of insurance fraud, but it appears others beat me to it, and it would be a shame to ruin a perfectly useful car. I suspect you’ll be working again in no time, so it’ll probably be a useful commuter, and you won’t take a huge bath if you need to sell, as it cost so little to begin with.
The cost of living thing there perplexes me. Incomes are less than here, if I am not mistaken, the cost of living is probably higher, yet everyone has a million dollar mortgage, there’s a Range Rover in every third driveway, and every 4th kid is in a 25K/year hockey program or similar activity. How does it work? Greater than American debt? Parental aid? Counterfeit money?

I know car sales people who make $40k a year and I know some that make $250k a year. It's all about your approach, motivation, and of course your client base and the brand your selling. If your good, getting into a Honda, Toyota, Subaru, BMW, Audio, VW shouldn't be hard. Also if you good by email and phone - Look into getting into a BDC department to start

Trade both cars in at the same time and get maximum value and get a new car that you want with a low finance rate

I would just list it for sale anyway. It costs you nothing, and if you get a bite, great. If not, no harm done.
