Once a Lego lad, always a Lego lad. The thing in the picture is something I made a little while ago.

Any Construx fans?  I’m not sure why exactly, but my parents bought us tons of these when we were little.  Maybe my dad thought they were cooler than Lego (and/or perhaps cheaper).  Either way, I still love them.

My wife gets a bit embarrassed that her son AND husband are building stuff out of them

I picked up some for my cousin’s boys, but mine will be going to my nephews once they’re a bit older.

I always had younger siblings, so it was ages until I could get into serious actual LEGO. I had to make do with big construction projects (including a three-mast clipper) out of buckets-worth of Korean duplo knock-off we had (long story).

We did eventually get into LEGO, LEGO Technic (and Bionicle, obviously) as well as k’nex, and this:

Tinker toys, lego, and duplo. Specifically had the plastic tinker toys.

Grandparents had a container of American Plastic Bricks.  They were like a flimsier lego made specifically for making brick buildings.

My building toys ranked:

Lego

Capsela

Erector (I liked sticking the wires into outlets, nice spark and a cool ball of melted metal formed on the end. Possibly I shouldn’t have survived childhood)

Cons trux

Lincoln Logs

K’Nex

Duplo

Yup. For some reason my mother went all in on construx  over legos. Probably why I'm weird.

I think I had that same last set as a kid. That brings back some memories.

Edit: maybe it wasn't that exact set, but one similar to it.

We were poor, so all I got was Lego’s cheapside cousin: Brix Blox.

Still, I love that my mom was able to get these for me.
