I had a very heated debate with my friends about whether one would prefer to eat a whole can of spam, or a bowl of plain white rice. The room was split. Tempers flared. One beer can was thrown. My friends are passionate people.

Meanwhile Hawaii is asking why not both?

Can the spam be cooked or otherwise altered? Or does it have to be straight from the can?

damn straight - you are only one scoop of mac salad and a fried egg away from heaven

Am I allowed to fry the Spam first? If so, those favoring the rice are bad people and you should not be friends with them anymore .

Cooked, but no additional ingredients besides salt.

I’m not sure I could consume just one whole can of spam fried or otherwise. Maybe added to something but just straight up? Hard pass. A couple slices and some eggs and a bagel? Fuck yeah.

Spam. Definitely the Spam. But only if I could fry it first.

Wait - are you suggesting there are people on this planet that would put salt on Spam?

Tin of Spam, no issue.
But together, nice.
Even better, Spam Fritters (Spam slices dunked in batter and fried).

I LOVE SPAM, especially grilled with mac and cheese.

Give me the rice. Though it would really help if I can at least put unhealthy quantities of salt on it. Maybe I can cook it in salt water...

Rice for me. In fact, I choose that option on a regular basis, no Spam threat required.

Spam fritters are a classic from my childhood.
Spam now make them themselves.
There’s some interesting recipes on their website.

My mother was born in 1940, and she remembers Spam as a staple in her diet as a child. The put Spam in everything.

The only way I eat spam anymore is mixed with Kimchi ramen and a fried egg on top. I don’t even remember who or where I got that recipe from, but I’m assuming I was drunk at the time .

That does sound kind of like drunk food.

We agreed that salt can be added to the rice, therefore salt can also be added to the spam if needed.
