Or... maybe I’m crazy, but what if there was a second Oppo? Another Oppo just for theme day posts? We could still have regular Oppo and meaningful posts wouldn’t be “ burried”, but those who like theme days would also be able to do that. T he trouble would be coming up with new themes... Perhaps it could be a monthly thing? At that point, it could even be just a monthly/every-few-monthly  thing on regular Oppo...

Except that is not happening here. First, p eople are generally posting things with interesting content. Second, activity on the forum is low enough that nothing is getting buried. We had an hour rule post mid day for crying out loud. Third, if people posted the same concentration of completely frivolous but unrelated shitposts at the same time, no one would bat an eye .

Out of curiosity, what exactly is your problem with the theme days? As far as I can tell, there were never so many themed posts that they obscured more meaningful posts, the majority of the themed posts had actual content, and some darn interesting content, too. They were fun. That was all they were ever meant to be, and no one ever said you shouldn’t post non-themed content if you don’t wish to participate. I thought we’d accomplished something good with the theme day. It resulted in lots of good posts, which some have complained Oppo has had less of lately. That doesn’t exactly seem like spam to me. So I’m genuinely curious, what about the theme day made you mad enough to threaten to revoke my authorship?

Let me give you a touch of unsolicited advice, if I may. Arch Duke has always consistently been against theme days for as long as I have been here. But he’s actually a decent guy whose motivation is to keep the forum enjoyable for all. That being the case, you can still get away with themes if you observe a few things.

First, keep the posts quality content. Don’t just post random pic after random pic to keep the theme going. You did that overall. I suspect that’s why you got such latitude. Second, probably don’t throw it up by doing things like theme day recap or calling for another theme in advance. It could be seen as a red flag to a bull. These things have typically happened organically. And third, try and avoid rapid fire posting so that your own posts are something like four or five out of six posts in a row on the same topic. That gives the impression that you’re  kind of monopolizing the forum, even when people are responding to the posts. You may have noticed that we have a creative membership here that are capable of taking up the flag if given the opening, mods included.

Otherwise keep doing what you’re doing. Oppo needs new blood, and I think you bring good stuff to the mix. Plus, I want to hear when you get that T bird fixed up.

Thanks for the advice, I will keep it in mind. I never meant to offend anyone; the recap post was mainly created for my own benefit because I wanted to be able to access all the posts from the same place in the future.

They tend to get out of control and can end up being pages worth of herp and derp burying anything good. We mods have made several posts over the past 7 years about this, yet no one seems to learn.

It’s cool. I think it was clear to all that you have the right frame of mind for Oppositelock. Hope you’ll hang around for a long time. Also, I had fun reading about Desotos and Lincolns when I was supposed to be working.
