Fun fact - HAPAG used to give a lot of their ships patriotic American names, because of a widespread superstition among central and eastern European immigrants that they would be treated better at Ellis Island if they arrived on an American sounding ship.

It did mean that we didn’t really have to rename many of the ones we seized as war reparations, though we did change the SS Amerika to SS America. And “Vaterland” to “ Leviathan", but thats a different case.

Interesting, I just read that apparently, the Abraham Lincoln was used to shoot flight deck sequences for the new Top Gun flick.
