“When in doubt, get a bigger hammer" is almost never the right answer, but it feels like it could be here.

It will - but you have to use a large hammer and hit it very hard.
I took mine out when we renovated the bathroom with a long handled 10 pound sledge. Swing it like you mean it and wear ear protection. It’ll sound like you’re ringing a church bell. I made the mistake of not wearing ear plugs and couldn’t hear well for days after.

It’s a two piece tub. Look at how it sits.
That should give you a hint.

Your local tool rental place should have a jackhammer for rent.

If you managed to dent it then it is not cast iron. Cast iron doesn’t really deform like that. You might have a p orsche lin coated steal tub that is bonded to foam or plastic to make it feel more sturdy. When you remove some of the tiles you can slide it out on an angle.

Is steel unfortunately. I was 200lb gorilla + 12lb sledge and it would just dent. Though apparently guys on YouTube just unhook them and drag them out so we'll see.

I think you’re down to cutting the calk and trying to take it out as once piece unless you want to take a wheel of death to it and cut it up.

Its on the 2nd floor and I'm trying not to destroy the wall or my new kitchen downstairs. But I like where your head is at. Apparently I'm using the wrong kind of force - steel tubs are just remove the fasteners and carry away

Not in the slightest. Though the enamel popping off 20 minutes later and bouncing around the bathroom like shrapnel is pretty amusing.

That's not a cast iron tub :) I've never dented cast iron it breaks. That is steel coated in porcelain.

I demoed a tub that looks very similar to yours and used a big ass sledge and hit it like a porn star. I hit the same spot until it started to crack then it all started to fall apart pretty easily. Alternatively a metal cutting blade on a sawsall should also work.

That's surprising. I've smashed plenty of cast iron ribs with a 10lb sledge.

Well for one thing, try removing all the tile first. The top is locked in with grout and caulking. The force of your hammer has no where to go but in, instead of out and up.

It’s steel, not cast iron, which won’t break apart in the same way when struck with a sledge.

Hopefully that means its not as heavy. Cast iron is a bitch. Break out the sawsall?

Crow bar. Be prepared to knock out the drywall completely. Then the top half (the tub itself) should lift out of the stand (lower half).

You need a bigger hammer for that to work, and be prepared for the porcelan coating to explode razor sharp bits everywhere (as it’s already begun to do).
If there is absolutely no way to get it out of the house in one piece, next best option is a grinder with a
cutoff wheel or three
, cut it in half (short ways), you can then usually slide the two halves towards eachother and then extract them one at a time.

All the drywall is coming out. It's going to become a shower pan with tiling after I put new walling up and membrane the entire bathroom it seems.

Yeah I'm a bit worried how much energy transfered into the far wall now. And no lie I heard a piece of enamel pop off like a grenade a good 40 mins after the last strike. Think im going to ductape everywhere it's been struck then try to cut it free and drag it out.

You use a saws all and cut it in half. You only bash cast iron tubs. Steel tubs get the sawsall.

I dragged mine out, put it was in an ideal spot to do that. Only had to go about 20 ft on level ground to the outside.

As of yesterday. I found the flange that was behind the tile. It moves but is locked to the drain pipe and the tool to unscrew the drain tore the drain to bits. The whole thing does move and will be manageable once I cut the drain free.

This is the way to do it. When I’ve Ha d to take them out we’ll try and lift the tub with drain attached or smash the drain area with a hammer to break it loose, then lift from one side, stand it on end and waddle it out of there.
