A well traveled Datsun?

Was surprised to find this parked next to our company car today.

Kinja'd!!!

But that’s just a Datsun 280ZX you might say. Well yeah, but it is a seemingly North American/Australian Datsun 280ZX with license plate from Kuwait, a “CH” sticker indicating Switzerland, and it is parked up above the Arctic Circle here in Sweden (Gällivare).

It had a bunch of stickers on the front windshield as well, not sure if they were inspection stickers or from various rallies. I think the US has/had inspection stickers on the windshield in at least some states?

Seemed like a cool car with history.

Neat! Some US states do have inspection stickers. The best ones don’t have stickers , inspections or front plates...

Great spot. That awkward time Nissan was changing from Datsun back to Nissan.

I wonder what the story is on this one, may not be a USDM model, however, those look like US bumpers. IIRC, the US models all had a “by Nissan” script under the 280ZX badge, which this appears to lack. Maybe someone switched it. I am not familiar with the smaller Nissan badge at left .  These 2+2 models are very polarizing, but I don’t mind them.

With those inspection stickers, does the relevant authority leave the old one on after a new inspection? Or is that up to the owner? Because when I said “a bunch of stickers” I did mean a bunch, like three columns wide or so. Would be at least a solid 10-15 inspections minimum. I didn’t have time to check them out from close up, had to go to work.

I’m normally not that much into this era of cars, but this one just looked like it had a story to tell and it was damn clean as well (looking past the snow and salt of course).

Yeah, the fact that it was marked as Datsun at all made me guess US or AUS market, I’m not sure if these were sold as Datsun in the EU, my Nissan knowledge is close to negligable. I’d totally drive this example though, it just seemed interesting as hell with probably some stories attached to it.

This one photo tells me this car is well kept and ready  or another 40 years of driving.

When I lived in a state with inspections it was up to the owner to put on the sticker and remove any old ones.

I suspect a USDM car with some badge changes, although I don’t know what these looked like in other markets. By the pic I suspect a repaint, which might aid in that. The CH sticker looks too small to be an official item, might be a red herring, although it does appear to have a wide EU license plate mount, with what looks like a US bumper. Mysteries abound.

Old Datsuns/Nissans are still around on the west coast, I saw an early (maybe 1982-83) Datsun/Nissan Maxima on the road just last weekend.

Hey Rusty, I really appreciate the thought and all the effort into the FaH Oppo group, but I’d feel kinda bad as I didn’t really contribute much and postage on the sticker to Europe might be quite a bit more than the cost of the sticker :).
