This morning I went and shot a few subcompacts for concealed carry. Sig P365, P938, Glock 43. My shots were all grouped 5" below the center of the bullseyes. I’m not a gun expert so I don’t know what that’s about. I liked

Kinja'd!!!

the looks and feel of this one allowing for it’s small size and it came home with me. Two and a half fingers fit on the grip - not ideal.

yeah, the subcompact pistols are a big compromise for ergonomics, especially for folks with bigger hands. But, if the small size and light weight encourage you to carry it more often, then it’s doing its job.

SHOTS directly below the point of aim:

The shot string in the 5 o’clock to 6:30 area is caused when the shooter “breaks” the wrist – another form of anticipation. The shooter expects the handgun to recoil at a known instant and tries to fight or control this anticipated recoil by cocking the wrist downward. The shooter may subconsciously believe that the recoil can be lessened by holding the wrist down. This shot group can also be caused by a shooter who relaxes too soon.

No idea if this helps but is a common diagnoses

It means if you aim for the gut, you’ll castrate him.

That’s a cool, sinister looking choice. I don’t know if not fitting all fingers would drive me nuts or not. But if it feels good and you can hold it steady, that’s what matters.

Holster or belt clip?

I could squeeze all three fingers onto the grip when shooting but it was tight. And they have the extended 15 round magazine but I’m not thinking I’ll get one at this point.

I’m not even planning to carry often, if at all. I just would like to have the option. I’m signed up for the CCW class next month.

My M&P is a bit small for my hand, but an extended magazine provides the extra length for my pinky to rest on.

As for the 5" below the bullseye, it means you are precise, but not accurate. It could be the difference in how the sights are set from the factory and what you were expecting. From https://www.realgunreviews.com/sig-sauer-sight-heights-sight-numbers/

That makes complete sense. I probably just have to shoot a lot more. I was definitely afraid of the noise and was assuming a gun this small was going to jump out of my grip.

I’m surprised it was so consistently below the point of aim over 50 rounds.

Kinja'd!!! TheDutchTexan > VincentMalamute-Kim
02/11/2020 at 17:49

Kinja'd!!!0

What that is about is anticipating the shot rather than let it “surprise” you. You “pre” compensate for the recoil, so your shots end up low. A shot to the left or the right (depending on shooting hand) means jerking of the trigger. You said 5" below, how far away was the target?

Note: My shots are all over the place so not a marksman here , but as long as I am hitting center mass at 15 yards I am good.

Is that yours? The extended really ruins the look - and appearance is everything ;)

Actually, I assume the extended defeats the purpose of concealed carry.  I’m a small guy and I lost 30 lbs over the last couple of years - I figure it’s not going to be easy to conceal anything on me.

Well yeah, you can get a belt holster with a clip. That’s kinda what I meant. The other choice I was thinking was a shoulder holster like my brother uses for his 9 mm.  When my uncle was a diamond and securities courier in Manhattan back in the day, his revolver just had a belt clip built into the hand grip. He just tucked it that way inside his belt. 38 snub nose if I remember correctly from when I was 8.

Very cool. I shot a few of a buddy’s pistols last year, including one of those small CC types, (I don’t remember which...) I’ve got kind of “Trumpian” hands - large pudgy palms but smaller fingers - and I was worried I’d drop the damn thing. I ended up liking his Beretta the best out all of his stuff, (maybe the most forgiving for a goof like me...)

More like a handheld howitzer. I have strong hands and I love shooting that thing. Belongs to my cousin in Virginia, where the Democrats have taken over the entire state government — by slim margins — and are going berserk rewriting and rescinding gun laws. I’m not making a position statement here, just an observation. Virginia is where I go to fire an M-60 machine gun:

I asked because you said something about a CCW class, which made me think that maybe  you could actually obtain a permit. I’m in the San Francisco Bay Area and a CCW permit would be nigh unto impossible to obtain. I’d get one if I could, so I could carry if I wanted to. I own a S&W .38 spl snubby that would make a nice carry weapon.

ah. I’m sure in Colorado, the main goal of the CCW class is to pass you so you can carry.

I actually would not mind if we had strict national gun laws like Japan/England/New Zealand and I could be reasonably sure no one else was armed. But one strict gun law state surrounded by lax states isn’t ideal.

So in CA, you can own a handgun, just can’t carry it?

I think xd-s grip is a little longer actually but not sure. The major thing about the profiling is the holster you carry it in. You will prob find that holsters are a highly personal thing. Different strokes for different folks. I personally use a Galco “ King Tuck” IWB holster which allows for tucked or untucked carry, super low profile and very comfortable  for long term carry as the gun doesn’t move around on my body.

The reason I like the P226 is because when I was a kid I had a replica of one, it was a BB gun made out of clear plastic... and it was so good. always accurate, never seized, my friends envied it (we were... eleven?) because their 1911s and PPKs sucked.

We were savages, we had these huge free for all matches, and unlike paintball, plastic pellets don’t really let you know if you hit an adversary. S o were just in it for the sheer joy of making someone else feel pain. I was a shitty “player” but the straight aim of that P226 made up for it.

It looks like an off brand gun, and that’s kind of why I like it so much... plus, I’m a pretty big guy, so even at that young age the grip of the full size frame was just right for me.
