"LJ909" (lj909)

Caught this on the freeway this morning. An LS with Texas manufacturing plates so I’m sure it was from Lexus. The lower rear bumper as you can see is gone. What was interesting about it is that it had a single exhaust that exited to the right. And it had a sound that if you had heard it, didn’t sound like an LS. Almost sporty like. Whatever they are testing should be interesting.

Might be their upcoming twin turbo V8, although that’s supposed to be for the LC-F, not necessarily for an LS.

It sounded turbo V6 like. And it was loud.

This sounded like a turbo V6.

A new 2JZ-style inline-6 would make sense with a single-exit exhaust (only one bank of cylinders) and would cash in on the Supra hype that the Zupr4 couldn’t deliver on. Could sell way better than “bUt iT’s A bmW” they sell currently.
I cannot, in good faith, expect Lexus to be nearly that awesome though. Probably just a test mule for a V6.

Yea this would be a long shot. They have seen a performance resurgence kinda. At least Toyota has. But an I6 would surprise the hell out of me.
But yea I’m sure it’s just a new V6 or something. It sounded good.

There’s a rumor that the next IS will have an inline 6 available, either the same one as the Supra, or a new one developed by a Toyota-Mazda joint venture. So that might not be that far off.
