Nearly a month now...TourX isnt back from the shop

As you may recall, I hit a deer the first or second week of January. The TourX was dropped off to the body shop after a week of driving due to a cracked radiator. It’s been nearly a month and I miss it so much. I’m currently driving a horrible FWD Rogue. The Rogue itself isn’t bad but the FWD definitely makes it worse. The reason for the long delay is of course parts rarity.

Parts rarity for a brand new car that’s still currently being produced ? That doesn’t make sense to me.

That’s a pain. I’ve been looking (not so seriously) at getting an AWD wagon, but by the time you get into ones with decent power, you are either looking at things that are a decade or more old, or things that start approaching the price of a new TourX, which makes that look pretty appealing.

Even with the delay, I still recommend the TourX every day of the week. There isnt just anything that approaches it in terms of utility and value along with power

Low production number combined with the recent GM strike can wreak havoc

We had an almost three week wait for a mirror for my wife’s Chevy.

Apparently independent body shops are still struggling to get parts. GM is apparently still  prioritizing resupplying dealers with parts following the strike last fall.

I wouldn’t think something like a radiator would be made by GM. Also, isn’t the TourX made in Germany? Were they also on strike?

My sister loves her FWD Rogue.

We also don’t have snow.

Man... I just told my salesperson that we won’t be buying a brand new 2019 TourX Preferred in Rioja Red for $23000.

But, we’ll be payment free for as long as we want so that works as well.

Woo wee, parts shortage! I just replaced the back bumper on on of our work trucks. 2014 Chev 1500. Ended up paying $1600 for all the bits separately, because the plant that produces them is shut, and GM has no contingency plan to fill the vacuum. According to the parts guy, I got the last bits available, and it may be months before certain GM parts will be available.

You’d be surprised what a shit show GM (and I am sure other manufactures ) parts can be. They switch distributors half way through a production run, but then don’t tie that to the VINs so you have to physically inspect some parts to see if it is right. Or there were two options not specified, suppliers stop making parts, GM doesn’t pay their bills (big issues from the bailout), or especially with brand new cars things like brake pads and normal wear items will be ready for distribution, but major components all go to the assembly lines first. We have had to get parts from GM where they pull and ship full items off the assembly line. Got a whole Solstice bumper lights and everything back when those were new cause a tech smacked the bumper and it had to be replaced. Another instance is where the specs were off on the dimensions of a part so an ENTIRE run of these frame bits for a truck were wrong. We reordered the part for a customer 6 times provided GM support with the dimensions we were getting compared to what they were. Finally got one and they had to scrap the lot of that run and order more to be made.

Lots of things can happen when a large company produces a lot of things and parts on those things are made by other people too.
