“But that means I’ll only be driving my personal vehicle to the airport once in a while! Forget the Outback! ”

In other news, my career plans and my car plans constantly fight each other. How’s everyone else doing tonight?

That’s one of those places way up north where your personal vehicle ends up being a snow mobile or a quad?

There really should be a Rick and Morty episode where they go to a fly-in community. Way scarier than alien worlds or alternate dimensions.

One of those places where I think I just get to drive the work truck, but yes, snowmobile or ATV.

More engine tear  down. Couple rum and cokes.

I’ll let you know how it is! It’d actually be a bit less work than my current position, just more in the middle of nowhere.

Nice! How’s the tear down going?

Those are the worst OEM wheels I’ve ever seen on an STI!

That last sentence is pretty significant coming from someone who lives in Saskatchewan.

If you can handle it, it’s big money though, just have a long term plan for doing something else and save your $$$$ so you can enjoy the finer things once you have a job back in the real world.

It would be the same job I do now, so I’m good with it. Only two years up north (minimum), and then I can move back down south.

Stopped for the night. Reading the factory service manual, says I should apparently check end play before taking the rod caps off. And I don’t have any plasti guage. Curious if it’s even necessary since it’s all gonna go to a machine shop anyway.  Guy I bought the motor from said the bottom end was making some kind of light rod knocking ish noise at light rpm. So curious to see if I find evidence of that

I grabbed some liquid courage and just filed my tax return online. I got a refund, almost large enough to not matter at all because it never does.

I can’t wait to do my taxes. I just wish my employer would hurry up with paperwork.

I had only a few forms this year for me and my wife together. Two W2s, two mortgage thingies, one student loan interest form, HSA contributions, and bank account interest paper things.

I was never more angry than back in 2014... 2013? We had been paying some asshole to do our taxes, and in two years of use, never asked/used our 1098-whatever forms (student loans interest). When I did the taxes myself the following year, I was like, what the hell is this form available for download from Big Evil Student Loan Lender Corp? Okay, enter fields online doo doo doo— the fuck?! My return skyrocketed (in comparison to our several-hundred dollar return) with that form. Money left on the table by an alleged professional at my expense (charged a flat rate so what do they care? ). Morale of the story: shame on me for assuming people can do anything (change the oil on any of my vehicles, request basic tax forms, or install products properly).

It’s a pain in the arse to try to find people to do a good job. Speaking as a slacker, of course.

Well today we were painting my wife’s office. And I am a HORRIBLE painter. But I sat there and remembered how expensive an actual painter is . And is such a premium befitting the quality of work? Sometimes indeed yes, but you’re really paying for the luxury of NOT having to do it yourself. They’re faster than you’ll ever be, but is the quality leagues better? The answer is often: hell no, I’m not paying for that.

Besides, painting is the only way you’re going to get better at painting!

Every time you talk about your job I feel a slight bit of jealousy. Enjoy!

I found a case of my favorite cider tucked back on a warehouse shelf at the grocery store. It's a summer seasonal flavor and it's been out-of-stock everywhere since August. Or so I thought. I'm cracking one open tonight. I'll have five more to last me until June.

It’s a career I wouldn’t trade for anything else, that’s for sure.

Good luck on the cider front.

Would they train you to fly the plane? That would seem like a neat trade off for working in an even smaller place.

There are certainly some aspects of your agency that sound pretty interesting. Part of me thinks that had I ch ose a better one to join back in the day,   I might not have so quickly decided the job wasn’t something I wanted to do.

Awesome...it’s been raining gently all weekend and we now have enough water to run the house for months. Plus the grass is growing again...

And just today we are down one shitty little shed that was too low to be useful and up one very practical slab.

Kinja'd!!!

There will be a character built glass house integrated with the other shed appearing here in due course...

If I had seen this last night I could have said that I finally saw Ford vs Ferrari in the theater. It was good. I drove the GTI there and joked with my wife that I’d recreate the movie on the drive home.

Since you’d be in the middle of nowhere, why even have a personal car? Or maybe a fun beater to work on when you are bored, which would seem often, but then you’d have to constantly ship parts, I guess. I’d think a jeep or old lifted truck might be fun in that circumstance, but if flat terrain then old r ally car of some sort.

Personal car would be left at the airport in PA for when I fly down on breaks and such.

So then the world is your oyster, no need for any practicality. But something that you don’t mind getting beat up by leaving it at airport parking for long periods.

Right now I’d think along the lines of a used and already cosmetically challenged WRX STI or Golf R, or maybe Audi S3. Or, hell, Corvette C5 Z06. It’s not like it snows in your area . . . oh, wait.

Wait, what do you mean “PA”? Pennsylvania? I thought you were all Canadian and such. What does PA stand for in Canada?
