A few days ago I scored a great deal on a chipped ecu for Spoolious Caesar (the nickname given to the RX7) that allows me to run 720cc secondary injectors and adds fail safes to the car for increased boost pressure.

Kinja'd!!!

The fun hasn’t stopped there though; not hardly. Last weekend the clutch master cylinder decided to check out and die, so I’ve ordered a new one along side a braided master to slave line. Additionally I ordered my 720 injectors, AN oil cooler line conversion, competition motor mounts, short throw shifter and other little odds and ends.

The bill hurt, but unfortunately it’s not even a slight dent in the grand scheme of things. The life we choose when we’re car enthusiasts am I right?

Ugh Mazda clutch hydraulics.  At least the parts are cheap, makes up for having to fix it all the time.

I have plans to fuel inject my El Camino and the parts alone are very close to $2000 by the time you get everything you need. Probably a lot to spend on a car worth about $7000 which runs just fine with the carb it currently has.

I feel ya. my truck is right at the 10yr/150,000mi “design life” so things are starting to wear out. The check engine light came on again with a P0430, and I can hear a rattle so I know the bank 2 catalyst broke up. the right stabilizer bar link broke about a month ago, the rear shocks started leaking, and now (I think) the right front wheel bearing is starting to make noise. The suspension stuff and wheel bearing I can do myself so we’re not talking more than a few hundred bucks in parts (thanks Rock Auto!)  but this is the typical point where the “nickel and dime” shit starts making one think of a new vehicle.

Fast EFI I’m assuming? It’ll be well worth it. Good amount of power and especially fuel economy to gain.

That’s rough :( rock auto is definitely a best friend under these circumstances.

Holley Sniper is what I have been looking at. They now have a returnless fuel system which takes about half of the pain in the ass factor out of the install.

I get about 9mpgs now... I suppose anything will be  an improvement.

It’s almost always cheaper to fix what you have, as disappointing as that may be.

I just had to pay $1021 CAD to get a front-right wheel bearing and fuel tank replaced :(

I feel you...

I know somebody that set that up on a 396 Chevelle and was getting high teens!

Ouuuuch that’s painful. I assume the fuel tank was about 80% of it?

Yeah, supposedly 3.6 hrs of labour and the tank itself was near $400 or something like that.

to a point.  but if you only have one vehicle, you have to consider the associated cost of downtime too.

I kind of agree, but it’s hard to spend more than what a new vehicle will cost you per mile.

That being said I just bought the newest car I’ve ever owned because I was sick of being anxious about it breaking/rusting away, so I get that there are reasons outside of money that make the extra spending worth it
