But not for too long because too much of a good thing can hurt you. Like it ate an entire giant cookie, my car got sick and threw up every warning light it had.   The ‘ol off and on fixed it and I was out there for a while, but still worrisome.

I don’t have snow tires.

One time last year I was out on the lake having fun with the BMW, and I got a warning light telling me the transfer case clutch pack  was getting too hot. So I set traction control back on and drove home real nice and easy.

I’m guessing this is why you don’t see a tone of Xdrive Rally Cars.

Well thats disappointing. Snow and ice is why you buy the X drive.

I’m not interested in putting any more money into my equinox than I absolutely have to. Once the head gasket goes completely it’s gone.

Yeah. I had been driving reeeally hard for like 45 minutes tho. Lots of clutch kicks And I tried e-brake initiations too. I don’t think the car liked that

Two nights ago on my way home from work I was following a Jeep Wrangler that lives up the street from me. It has really wide a/t mudder tires on aftermarket chrome wheels. It had just snowed/sleeted a fair amount and the plows and salters hadn’t hit the roads yet (It was midnight)

We get to an overpass over the railroad tracks and a car had stopped to turn in front of us. The Jeep stops on the upward incline and when it starts to go, it’s just a wheel spinning mess. I couldn’t see if he had 4wd on but he was spinning so bad that he started drifting back towards the front of my car! I let my foot off the brake and drifted back a touch but didn’t have a lot of room as a car was coming up behind me and I wasn’t sure he was going to stop in time.

Fortunately the Jeep finally caught some traction and started moving forward. I have an STI with Nokians and I already had traction control off so I just hit the gas and whipped around the Jeep into safety.

Its a good reminder that all-terrains don’t translate into effective winter tires.  The compounds get rock-hard and can’t get any grip on the icy or hard pack surfaces.

lol, at least your situation mechanically makes sense. I think my car’s computers were just confused after such prolonged steering and throttle. “idk even know whats happening anymore”.

I really let loose the last snowfall here a couple days ago and it was a blast!

My last regular rwd snow experience was in my dad’s 97 Ram. RWD, n o traction control, no ABS, 3 speed auto. So much torque just one goose of the throttle and the back would step out and you could hold it there with a light feathering of the pedal .

The Miata with these aggressive snow tires has a surprising amount of grip, even with an inch+ of snow on the ground. (almost too much for real sideways shenanigans, but it’s safer for normal driving I guess haha .)

Less torque means you gotta really gas it to hang the end out and really stay in the throttle, higher rpm, to keep it there. Short wheelbase makes it a little twitchier vs the long pickup but half the fun has been learning what it’s going to do.

So cliche, but the Miata  really is a fantastic drivers car

Thats why its fun though! You have to rev it, for better or worse.  I n my opinion for the better.
