The new “Desert Rated” Mojave.

I still like the Gladiator, though. Seeing as they’ve apparently become a common fleet vehicle, I should go rent one for a weekend.

TBH it just seems like a fake Rubicon.

I rented one in Houston last weekend. Loved it. Want one desperately (won't ever happen)

Meh, the Rubi hoods are already riddled with fake vents and stuff.

I’ve already seen a couple bro’d out examples here in my corner of the DC burbs, where Wranglers are the overwhelming favorite of dozerbros.

But you can’t out-TRD Pro a TRD Pro Tacoma if you don’t have hood scoops!

It has a few differences, Fox remote reservoir shocks, rear locker (no front), different transfer case. Faster dirt running is it’s game over rock crawling.

I’ve been eyeing them for a while. I’ve driven a few different JLs and liked those, so I’d like to see how different the JT is.

Apparently, it comes blocked from the factory but can be opened. As you said, why you’d want to open it and dump dirt into your engine bay is beyond me.

“desert rated”

Kinja'd!!!

Eye roll aside, it has some cool upgrades, hydro stops in the front, and frame bracing.  What they wanted to call it was “raptor fighter” but instead the marketing department thought “desert rated” sounded better.

I haven’t see a ton of overbuilt JLs (or even many JTs at all). JKs are all over the place, though, all angry with random color halos. If I were to get one, it’d be a mid trim two door, which is hugely impractical, so I won’t be getting one.

It does appear to have good, functional differences. It sounds like it’ll come in around the same price as a Rubicon. I can’t wait for the Desert Trail Rated Edition.

I remember an interview with Mike Swee rs the chief truck guy for Toyota saying that while people can and have been opening up the hood scoop on the tacoma for a while, its a bad move that will actually make the cooling system work harder. Cooling engineers know what they are doing, despite what “sawzall engineers” seem to think. Here is another fine example

No Andrew, you don’t get to claim the engineers are wrong on a hunch, and no you don’t get to claim that you created this video because you knew it would create discussion AFTER its clear you would be called out.

This guy is starting to bug me more and more. He’s reached a critical stage of self importance that is beyond my limits to handle.

It was my first time in a keep of any variety. I loved the weight of the steering. Rental spec was powerful enough to get out of it’s own way, and what else do you need. Top down was a different experience than the Miata, but fun all the same. It’s not going to be as useful as my old beater tundra, and that’s the catch. It’s not gonna do truck things as well. But  you want an adventure vehicle? Tent, cooler, mountain bikes, etc in the back, doors and top off, see you in a few days? Not much going to do that better. Only other complaint is the long wheelbase is obvious, especially over bouncy roads. But, duh.

For me, all a truck has to do is haul some hockey gear and the occasional lumber, so one would most likely work for me. The price, though. Ouch.
