Why are we buying a car? The piece of shit Focus with the worst transmission ever invented has to go, it’s flat out dangerous to drive. Ford “fixed” the transmission twice, most recently they looked at it again and decided “it wasn’t that bad” and wouldn’t repair/replace it. It’s a real shame because otherwise it’s a really nice car.

It was a pleasure checking out the car. If we can agree on a few things we can close this deal..

Let’s do some basic math sir. Invoice minus $400 is the offer. No offense but I’d like a copy of the invoice to verify. Take another $1000 off courtesy of the manufacturer , and $10,000 off for my trade in. What’s the number look like?

Next, we need to add in sales tax and the license fee for a final out-the-door price. The only thing I would ask for is for you to throw in the weather package (mats) and wheel locks. Payment is up to you, I can pay with check or wire transfer.. whatever works best for you. Finally, the process of picking up the car. I would like the entire transaction to take 15 minutes or less so that means no shenanigans with the finance manager.

If we agree on the above I’d like to verify the tires, I’ve bought new cars in the past that had Goodyears and had to swap out the tires within the first 1000 miles. In order of preference I like Michelins, Pirelli, and Bridgestone. Appreciate you making the purchasing process a pleasant experience.

I just bought my first three pedal convertible at the end of December, ( literally in a snow storm,) and can confirm, the deals are incredible.

My guess is Miata, because that’s what I chose ;)

Her dad insisted that she know how to change a tire on her own, and drive stick before she could get her license. Pretty impressive as she’s 5 ft 2 and 115lbs. She hasn’t had a manual transmission for a long time and when she test drove it yesterday we stopped in a parking lot and she was backing into spaces, checking out the sight lines.  She sez to me “whats that smell”?  It’s the clutch honey, it’s not a variable thing, it’s either in, or out. Don’t ride the clutch.  Then I took over than thrashed the thing for a bit, it was a lot of fun.

It’s assembled in Hiroshima. The only Fiat part may be the engine (that may be too much - LOL).

Never gon na buy another Ford again, ever. Unethical is being generous, they knew the transmission is dangerous and refuse to make amends. The class action lawsuit will net each owner $30. I had a VW TDI and I have to say, they were forthcoming and generous even before the settlement with the government. Yeah, they lied but they paid up. Ford is an awful company.

And that’s a BIG thing LOL  don’t care how good a deal it is, I value reliability. One of the reasons I bought a Taco a few years back, it’s been perfect.

The car shudders and shakes violently , quite often refuses to engage when you’re trying to merge into traffic leaving you in limp mode , someti mes it won’t go into reverse . It’s completely unpredictable. It’s not a subtle thing at all, the transmission is complete shit.

Really? Being straightforward and summarizing the discussion is unsettling? How so? I work in sales and having things laid out  so there’s no misunderstanding isn’t a hardship whatsoever. It’s a business deal.

I certainly don’t blame anyone for being straight forward, but what is the salesperson supposed to do about the brand of tire the car came with? We don’t care to hear anecdotal tales from people’s prev ious ownership’s either. You’ll find just as many people who hate one brand over another for an infinite amount of reasons. Do you genuinely think a salesman gives half a shit about your order of preference of tire brands? Also, starting with “let’s do some basic math sir” can easily be construed as condescending, just ask for an out the door price. “Next, we need to add in sales tax...” no shit. “I would like the transaction 15 or less minutes” So would they but it’s rarely possible.

Now don’t get me wrong, If I was in the sales position, I’d do absolutely everything in my power to fulfill all of your wants and needs. But I’d be getting an eye roll from a manager every time I added another request from a customer . It would just annoy the hell out of me. If it worked for you, and you got everything that you wanted, then great for you,  b ut salesman prefer simple straightforward deals.

The sales man didn’t know what brand of tire was on the car, and it was pitch dark and snowing a bit. Also, the car we drove is not the car we’ll be buying, it was at a different location. So I asked, if they have the flexibility I would prefer not to have lousy tires on the car, it’s not a huge ask for a $35k car. As I mentioned, I’ve bought new cars and had to spend a fair bit to replace the tires.

The basic math is exactly what they offered to me and I have no inte ntion of paying a doc fee, or any other hidden costs. So yeah, let’s be sure it’s clearly understood. I’m not asking for anything other than what they offered and I want the transaction to go quick & easy. We’re all aware of how painful the process can be and I don’t want to waste time on a simple transaction.

I’ve done deals with very large corporations that has taken a year to negotiate and sign off on, 50+ pages detailing every last possible detail. It goes without saying if you want to sell stuff for a living you better have thick skin, and, listen to your customer.

The amount of time it takes your salesperson to respond to all your requests, report to management, and orchestrate additional parts, doing disclosure paperwork with you, managing detail of vehicle, and spending the time to be sure you understand and are comfortable with the vehicle will make them $200 closing this $30k deal. You’d better palm them at least an additional hundo for putting up with a smile
