Kinja'd!!!

My son turns 13 next weekend and for his birthday he is having 8 of his buddies bring over their XBoxes and they are going to play games. Most all the games run online. We have fiber at the house, but just have  a single router. We called our ISP and they said we could add a couple of Ethernet switches and we should be fine. Can any of you think of things that we might need to consider?

Extension cords and power strips? You have enough TVs already?

I know some games won’t allow multiple players from the same IP to play online, but there’s nothing you or your ISP can do about that, it’s just how the game’s programmed. But if they just wanna play with each other on LAN, it should be fine. If there’s not enough ethernet ports you could either daisy chain another router or just put a few people on wifi (although if they’re playing a shooting game, RIP the people on wifi)

Cheetos and Pizza, and send away any older/younger siblings. May God have mercy on your soul.

Where’s the Mountain Dew? The bagel bites? The hot pockets?

Also you and the rest of the fam should probably vacate the premises for that weekend . My game nights  would usually be multi day frag sessions.

Just nice long Ethernet cables, a basement, stocked fridge, snacks and a pair of earmuffs for you to get a little bit of sleep that night

Batteries or chargers for the controllers.  I would ask them they would know best what the games they’re playing require, LAN or having to connect online in a private lobby.

Maybe grab a couple copies of ‘Lee Carvallo’s Putting Challenge’ in case they get bored of their own games.

Ask them to download all the updates before packing up to come over.

Yes add switches, probably not routers,  if you need more ports. I’m pretty sure most routers can handle far more clients than they have internal ports. Adding routers to the setup could get confusing however.

Fans. Too many teenage boys with lots of hardware is a recipe for a hot and  smelly room. We learned this the hard way

One of those scent vaporizer things would go a long way. And they're cheap on Amazon. All they need is a cup of water and power. No fear of the boys knocking over a candle or something like that.
