Sir Edward William Elgar, 1st Baronet’s Nimrod, composer of Enigma Variations, number IX, Nimrod, the mighty hunter.
The best known of the variations is the serene Variation No. 9, identified by the composer as “Nimrod.” The name is a play on words, as the biblical !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! was a great hunter, and the German word meaning “hunter” is Jaeger . This lyrical movement portrays a warm conversation between the composer and his friend Jaeger, who by Elgar’s account, offered valuable artistic guidance throughout a long partnership. The final variation portrays the composer himself, though it includes music from the first variation as well as the theme from “Nimrod” to indicate the significance of his two strongest influences.
Elgar was known to of suffered from depression all his life, the Enigma Variations are noted to be dedicated to those friends that helped him through.
Like in the video below is of the television orchestra of Greece’s ET1 which the Greek government shut down in 2013. This video is of them playing their last peace, their swansong.
It always draws a tear.
We’ve been through a lot together on OPPO, we’ve had many good times and some really bad times, we’ve had many a time that we were going to be shutdown either as a whole Gawker website to just losing OPPO. This is our final call, the last hurrah.
We may not have this platform much longer and over the years we’ve lo st a few and gained a few members, but the fact so much effort has been put into keeping together as a group as this merry band of brothers and sisters is surely testament to the bond that it’s allowed us to foster together.
We’re a band of Mexicans, Americans, British, Dutch, French, Canadian, New Zealander, Australian, Belgium, etc... (sorry if I’ve not listed your home nation), brothers and sisters , here is what team work does.
WE’LL MEET AGAIN.
