Hi,
I’m looking for UX/Product
design
positions, preferably remote... am in the NYC tri-state area but open to anywhere within CONUS. Born, raised here... can provide portfolio + resume as well. Please, I beseech your aide in the name of common decency! Thanks :)

I get about 100 UX design job alerts a day, here in Austin.
I’ll spare you the rant about the coopting of the term “product design” to mean software, not hardware.

What keywords would one use to search their company job board for that type of role? What level? Anything other than UX UI?

unfortu
nately those all require more experience than I have, thanks though!

UX or product design... maybe digital design is something else I’d be interested in but my portfolio and everything I’ve been working for the past 2 years has been
geared towards UX... around 1-3 years of experience

I’d try anyway. Companies often ask for more than they’ll actually get, and maybe you’ll get some interviewing experience out of it even if they don’t hire you.

My wife is an Associate Director of Experience Design at VLMY&R.

Look there.
They’re pretty much all remote and they seem to treat their employees pretty decent. She had some f*ckos on her last project but they sounded like they came out of the womb as d’bags.

Ok, so my internal job board knew what I wanted to type and after inputting “ user” it prompted me to “User Experience Design” but there weren’t really relatable results. I work in the pharma space and don’t know if there are specialty terms for UX in this industry. I have to assume we do UX as certain products are device delivery or just devices that people need to interact with. Might be a new area to explore. If you come up with any other search terms I would be happy to check.

This seems more like a technical helpdesk kinda thing, but if you see anything you like in the portal LMK and I’ll put in a good word

This is a true statement. Companies have a tendency to ask for more experience than can actually exist. Examples:
Entry level, 5-8 years exp
Mid level, asks for 8 years experience for software that is 5 years old

I’d love to help you, but all I’ve got is to suggest is applying to Texas A&M IT. They need someone like you, but I don’t know if you need the dumpster fire of University IT in your life.

They officially don’t support anything below Windows 8. So, yes, I wish you would.

Microsoft has a large number of open positions for UX, hardware and software, covering a range of experience levels. My guess is that they would prefer Windows 10 over Win95.

See if your wife can get a referral bonus. At my current employer I think it is or was $2k.

Might be a good idea but not sure about how that goes if you don’t know the person.

Unless you have a personal in with a company, you’ll need do a resume blast (fck that sounds so damn cliche) and see what sticks.
I had to do that after getting laid off last December. I think I sent out 60+ resumes and only got a few call backs.
After like 5 1/2 months of unemployedness where I got to re-do my bathroom and get better at Call of Duty, an old boss approached me about a job. I took it just to starting making money but then quit a couple months in because I got a better paying gig her at FoMoCo working with the same people but as a direct employee and not a contractor .
