Inspired by !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , here are the cars I’ve owned since I joined Oppo in 2013.

2012-2016: 2004 BMW M3

Kinja'd!!!

Daily driver except when the weather was particularly bad, although I did once drive it home from a night out during a rare heavy snowstorm and have to abandon it in a parking lot a mile from my house when I couldn’t get up the last hill. Great car, but expensive to fix when anything went wrong. Sold it sight unseen (well, except for a FaceTime walkaround) to a nice guy in Texas who as far as I know is still enjoying it.

2013-2017: 1992 Toyota FJ80 Land Cruiser

Kinja'd!!!

Winter/hiking/dog transportation. Good, solid truck. Taught RPM Jr. to drive in it, including a defensive driving class with lots of cone slaloms and stuff—that was fun. You all told me I sold it too cheap when the time came.

2016-2017: 2014 Audi SQ5

Kinja'd!!!

This was the right car at the time to attempt having a one-car garage, but it’s also how I learned that the two-car garage is the right life for me. I did learn my lesson from the M3 and buy one that was still under warranty (and an extended maintenance plan—thanks previous owner!), not that anything ever broke in the short time I owned it. Picture is from when I sold it almost exactly a year after buying it.

2017-Present: 2014 Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG

Kinja'd!!!

My current nice-weather driver. 507 edition, track package, and a CarMax warranty (again, learned my lesson from the M3). Best car I’ve ever owned, other than the atrocious gas mileage. It’s going to be hard to part with this one.

2017-2019: 2005 Toyota 4Runner

Kinja'd!!!

A slightly more modern replacement for the FJ80, with duties expanding from just winter and dog transportation to daily driving any time it rains hard, because the C63 does not like seriously wet roads. Good truck for road trips and such, when the mileage started creeping up and things got rattly I sold it on to a good home. If I could have found a really good low-mileage one, I probably would have replaced it with another of the same generation, but exceptional examples are really hard to find. And so:

2019-Present: 2016 Toyota 4Runner

Kinja'd!!!

My current skiing/hiking/dog/winter/rainy weather driver, a CPO Trail edition with a Katzkin leather interior. Good truck, loves a snow day or a road trip. I drive it more than the C63 these days, since when I’m not commuting my dog gets to come along on a much higher proportion of my drives.

2019-Present: 1993 Mercedes-Benz 300TE

Kinja'd!!!

Originally delivered in Japan, I imported this wagon from Canada, in part because it’s cool and it part as an educational experience, which I !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! to the good people of Oppo. I’m going to miss this place when it’s gone.

BONUS CONTENT: Other Oppo-era Household Vehicles

2010-2020: 2010 Toyota Rav4

The former Ms. RPM’s !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! and road trip family truckster. Sold in January for 95% of the asking price to the first person who came to see it.

2017-2018: 2004 Subaru Forester

A hand-me-down from !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! that I subsequently sold very cheap to a cousin for her son to drive, because...

2018-2020: 2017 Volvo XC60

Replaced the Forester with something a little more modern, with Ms. RPM and Jr. sharing the Rav4 and XC60 depending on the season and destination. Nice, practical car, but not very exciting. !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! after the former Ms. RPM quite understandably decided not to live in this country any more.

How did the fender get crunched? Looks kinda sad that way.

Tried to squeeze it into a storage unit while I was going to be out of town.

Glad I'm not the only one too lazy/cheap to fix some cosmetic body damage.

Well, I keep thinking I’ll replace my fenders with something different, and I keep failing to do so.

I didn’t have it long—only 13 months , the last month or so of which it was at a dealer on consignment just waiting for the right buyer.

The chances of me finding an autumn metallic colored fender for a Cruze for sale anywhere are slim to none and getting one painted is expensive.

This is an interesting exercise, but I keep cars too long for this to be all that interesting. I’m also not going to go into the level of detail you did, but here’s a brief anyway:

2001 BMW 325xi wagon, 5-speed manual (2009 - 2014)

2003 BMW 325xi wagon, 5-speed manual (2014 - 2019)

2007 BMW X3, 6-speed manual (2012 - 2018), wife’s car

1972 Ford F100, 3-speed manual (2009 - 2016 )

1961 Ford F100 4-speed manual (2016 - present)

2012 Volvo XC70 6- speed auto (2017 - present)

2015 Mini Cooper S 4-door, 6-speed auto (2018 - present), wife’s car

1999 Ford F-250, auto, 2020 - just got this one
