Their main customer base were budget travelers in the USA. They would fly out of smaller regional airports. It was great but the way they’d hop base airports to whoever was cheaper, I always questioned how close they were to shutting down. They had a niche of people wanting to skip the main hubs but I can’t see how they’ll be anywhere back for at least 6 more  months.

This is not about being subsidized. This is about keeping a company that keeps people employed, pays loads of money in taxes and contributes to the country’s soft power protection, alive for a short time, during the harshest pandemic in the last hundred years.

If Norwegian is left to die, toxic companies that prioritize profits above everything else, will take the market share left behind by them. Companies like Ryanair and Wizz Air. And that’s not good news for almost anyone.

I think it’s better to let the market play out, and just tax the winners appropriately.

Letting the market play itself out doesn’t always work in favor of the passengers, the said country or even aircraft manufacturers. Look the the US.

Companies like Ryanair or Wizz Air are already blackmailing cities to keep flying to their airports. Treat employees and passengers like crap, using various legal loopholes. And get discounts from airplane manufacturers that almost allows them to compete on different terms than other players in the industry.

They’re acting American, in Europe, and that's a problem.
