Seriously, everyone is talking about the shutdown of Kinja etc etc but I have not seen even one single
recent
news article, post, or tweet about it. Does anyone have actual
proof?
The most recent news appears to be from November 2019 . Nothing more recent appears in my Google searches... it’s like this is a big hoax, a collective hysteria of sorts.
Now, I’m not accusing you all of lying but I am curious to see what’s really going on out there. Cite your sources!
And it’d be nice to know if there was some sort of organized effort to move to another platform: Facebook (yes, I know we already have a group there), Discord, etc...
Can we get a permalink or something to a single post where this is being discussed? Are the admins working on something? Or is it all just noise?

Oh good question but I think when the Mods say it is happening, I feel pretty comfortable that it’s happening.
It’s kind of like being on death row and the guards are telling you to not make any appointments after next Monday if you know what I mean...... I would be getting my affairs in order.

Well, other than that multiple staff members have confirmed this decision as final. In writing. To the group.
Recent “promotees” (aka LJ and Mercedes) confirm staff calls of the decision .
Rory C confirms. He’s the official voice.
Mods have confirmed.
In-the-know ex-ers like Stef also confirm this is happening .
It’s a done deal, unless there’s a last minute stay of execution. But as of right now the official position (it’s legal and litigation driven) is that they don’t want the liability of all the User Blogs. That’s also Oppo.
Sorry Jake. It’s Chinatown.

We’ve talked to Rory and other Jalopnik staff, this is real, they don’t want it, but this is it.

The editor-in-chief of Jalopnik, as well as a handful of other Jalopnik writers, have confirmed.

It's only been the primary topic of discussion for the past four days, with Mod confirmations, EIC confirmation, screenshots galore, reposted tweets...

Rory Carroll, Jalopnik EIC, has confirmed it. And there’ve been multiple calls with lopnik staff and users here that also confirm it.
Try searching here for “opposite-lock.com” as that is currently in the works and many posts have been made about it. There, in general, is discussion already about us all heading there or to drivetribe’s opposite lock page, as they are currently the top two contenders right now. I hear the oppo lock discord will likely be the best place to stay in touch text-wise until things are more settled about our relocating

The Jalopnik editor-in-chief confirmed it when someone here asked on twitter. A few people here have spoken on the phone with Jalopnik staff about it as well.

I still hope they will backtrack again but seems like a done deal.

Do you want proof or evidence? Proof they are deleting us will come only after we have been deleted. Evidence concerning their intent to delete us is all over the place, like DNA on Saturday morning at a frat house.

It’s interesting in the sense that whatever their concern about liability is, one would think it would also apply to the comments just as much. I mean maybe they consider the comments more valuable, and so worth additional risk, or maybe they consider the comments more moderated, but I worry that even though they say there won’t be changes to comments on the FP, the next step might be applying the Deadspin comments treatment to all G/O Media properties.

Yeah, it’s all just “what some staff attorney thinks”... and you throw in the current Section 230 dust-up... and it’s damn confusing.

Ye s, quite, but I only check in about weekly, so finding that information is basically impossible. I figured there would be a permalink at the top, a banner, or even a google-indexed post from the overlords on the official Kinja blog.
I suspect they’re keeping it “unofficial” to prevent massive backlash? Whatever the reasons, it’s all lame.

I guess I don’t check in often enough to see all the posts and replies... and search hasn’t been very helpful.
I believe y'all, but I was expecting an official announcement that was actually searchable. Sorry to hear it, hopefully the community can get organized otherwise.

User-generated content, and the comments they attract, are outside of their legal reach except for that they’re providing the platform. Any attempts to police content for which they disavow any responsibility would be seen as censorship.
Having control over what staffers post - and therefore an implied moderator’s role in the discussion - allows for maintaining order without that appearance of censorship.

I am still wo ndering why the message about deletion is only showing on user blogs, like my personal one, and not here on Oppo.. .
