Plugging a tire means changing riding habits too. Most experts will tell you that it is a temporary repair, and that the tire should be replaced. Years ago I plugged a rear, because it hadn’t even been on the bike 2 weeks when it picked up a nail. The owner of my local dealership gave me the b ig lecture about not accelerating and braking hard, keeping speed under 70 mph, etc.

I took his advice, and the plug stayed until the tire was worn.

yea, i didnt. I rode a plugged tire just as hard as i would a new tire.

I’ve never had any issues. I’ve dont 170mph runs on a plug. I’ve done (effectively) track days on a plug.

plugs arent the same as they were even 10 years ago. they are shocking good.

THAT SAID. 2 plugs in a tire is my limit. and even 2, I will swap it for a new one if i’m going on a long trip.

Did just that, especially as it only has 3k on it... :)

I wish I had more time, managed one last scrape for the year and filled up with gas for the winter. I might just finish all the winterizing tomorrow. Looks like it’s going to rain the rest of the week or be cold...

I haven’t heard this or seen anyone have an issue.

I know with the front tire you don’t run plugs, except as the get me to the tire shop.

I rode for weeks with a screw in my rear tire. Everyday before leaving the shop I would over inflate the tire so that it would be usable in the morning. One evening a deer ran out in front of me in on a tight curve. That rear tire locked up in a micro second, which I blame partially on the reduced contact patch from excessive tire pressure . I put new tires on that weekend.

I rode in a flurry the first year on the D222s but anything under 7C or 45F with the Power GP? Nah I’d just rather not anymore.

like 5 years ago it was 50 on New Years Day so Dad and I went out for a ride - he had his ‘03 VRSCA, and I borrowed mom’s XL50 Sportster. Both had stock exhaust, thankfully - Dad hates loud Harleys more than I do, if that’s possible.

a screw or a plug? because those are two very different things. Plug the stupid thing and be done with it.

What did that square head screwdriver go in? (originally, before it went in your tire)

Well at least you get a free stud, so you ride on ice :p

If you can get a screw driver stuck in your tire, you’re doing something very wrong!

same as always, really. (“That bad, huh?”)
came back to do some shitposting and saw that Spanfeller’s looking to tear down the old clubhouse. Maybe the spike in traffic will show the counters of beans and the stuffed suits that this ol’ shitshack is worth keepin’ around.

Different tire, different motorcycle. The tire with the screw probably had 1500-2000 miles left in it before needing replacement. I didn’t feel comfortable putting a plug in this tire due to the location of the screw.

and there is the kicker, location location location.

also, if its near the end of its life anyways, might as well replace it. do a big fat stinking burnout on it and dump it

I’ve rode on the D222’s in a flurry the first year. The Power GP when it gets near freezing are basically like smooth hockey pucks, especially for the first few corners.

Such a bummer. Lucked out that it’s centre and able to just plug it. I just put on this rear not long ago, ~ 2000mi.

The front will almost always kick up a screw/nail lying down, so that the rear has a chance to stab  itself. Think about how many times you get a puncture on the front, probably like 1:20 compared to the rear. The main reason for this, I think, is because if a nail is long enough to get through the tire, chances are slim it'll stay standing upright for long enough to find a tire.
