Fintail , but I’ve reached out to him on a side channel.
Also Miss Mercedes , but I’ve reached out to them as well.

I’m sure Mercedes is in the loop. Pretty sure.

She’s on the Discord.

He’s on DT (with 500 others!).

Have you tried out the alternate universe that jminer whipped up this weekend? www.opposite-lock.com
It’s pretty impressive.

Yeah, looking good. Have only looked around, haven’t tested it yet.

I checked out Drive Tribe briefly. Not to put too fine a point on it, I just didn’t care for it. I’m much happier on the site that our in-house propeller heads are developing.

I think you should give DT a second chance. It took me a bit to get used to it, but it’s functionally very similar to Kinja and once you get used to where everything is, it’s very easy to use. Plus, it has the benefit of an “FP” of sorts to draw in new members.

It won’t be going anywhere, I expect. I’ll stick with jminer and RallyDarkStrike and their home-brewed solution for the time being.

If DT was our only option, I could live with it. In general it seems to work okay, and has some nice features. What I don’t like is the number of ads just thrown into the middle of posts - sometimes the same ad several times - and the amount of money they want to make those ads go away. I get that it’s a business, but it’s obnoxious.
I think opposite-lock is looking pretty good. The question will be what it takes to keep the lights on (effort and $$$). I know from an effort perspective, it’s a labor of love by jminer et al, but I suspect nobody wants to just cover the hosting expenses out of their pocket.

I can’t even get in, at least on my work laptop. Being limited to a one-time email link may be secure, but just give me a password box as an option.

My feeling about DT is this: I spent four years, maybe five, establishing myself on Oppo, with many growing pains along the way . On Opposite-Hyphen-Lock, I’m somebody, and people that I care about are working hard at creating an alternative to Kinja Land. DT will be there trying to monetize me when and if jminer and RallyDarkStrike throw in the towel. Specifically, though, what genuinely irritates me about DT is that their messaging feature they deny me until I am somebody, either by subscription or by reputation or by being drummed in by the caprice of some moderator somewhere. I’ve already ridden that rodeo and I’m not eager to ride it again if I don’t have to.

I forgot to use this link when at home, and work network will not permit tinyurl links to be accessed. Could you post the full link as a reply to me, perhaps?

He’s posted on both, since.

Is that also the length of that car in yards?
![]() 11/11/2020 at 14:17 |

Don't be snarky. That's the length in feet.

It looks like they just
changed their DM feature? I haven’t DM’d
anyone to test it
but it doesn’t look like it’s asking you to meet any
requirements
first.

With any luck, it’ll be a moot point because my fling with DriveTribe will have been vanishingly brief.

Feet? No, no, no, it must be in meters. We’re a global society.

Pretty sure I’m already on this list and the dash site is down. The life raft of DT doesn’t seem to be the most stable, either.
I’ll miss everyone if we never find another home for the community.

I’d like to know the fuel consumption expressed as rods per hogshead.

Good Morning. I am wholly unimpressed with DT. The Hyphen may have been offline momentarily... Realize that the entire platform is being developed on a lower-end server in a hotel room on the hotel WiFi. No joke. And two or three other members are supporting. For all that effort on their part, I'm sticking with The Hyphen. I have a personal interest as well in building up the Team Oppositelock Folding @ Home team.

Was the hyphen down? I think for a site less than a week old, it is pretty stable
![]() 11/12/2020 at 13:27 |

It was down periodically, signing up wasn’t working for a while... Lots of little bugs.

It’ll work out! I think it’s better than Kinja

You could never measure that thing in metric: it’s so US Customary you can practically see the cow horns.

Wait, how are they hosting a site on a hotel’s wifi?
I would help if the team needs it.
It sounds like it might be best to get it running on some kind of cloud hosting sooner than later.
