Yeah, a few oppo alumni made it to the front page. Oppo has been quite the source for new writing talent.
Too bad they couldn’t hold off on it just long enough for Biden to appoint a new FCC chair because Ajit Pai is a piece of shit and a herb.

I didn’t know LJ made it.
I’m looking forward to a possible resurgence of net neutrality. A fella can dream anyway.

Yup...they’re lucky...though I hope they can weather this storm as I have a bad feeling this is going to harm Jalopnik as well...

OK, so I’m going to throw this out— mainly because the timing is odd.
There’s clearly pressure to ditch OPPO. And there’s always cost-and-liability reasons for that. (“malpractice insurance”???)
Then David and Torch announce THEIR plan to start up a “Merchandise E-commerce site”...
Then, just now, Bradley announces HE’s doing a side-gig radio show?
Anyone else getting the sense there’s intense financial pressure over there? Hard as it is to imagine... can Jalop survive?
PG and Stef seem to have good management support and financing over at The Drive... Maybe they were smart to jump early?

Oh it will.
When this place goes down, I’m going to The Drive for car news and not touching any main Kinja . I already refuse to look at FP on my phone I get like 3 ads in a row as well as an autoplay video, all garbage.
This isn’t so much a scheme to spread rumors but if they’re willing to axe user blogs then what do you all think is the chance that they Deadspin the comment sections across the board ? I’m thinking near future.
It’s been my personal opinion since George and Ballaban left Jalopnik is about 2 years away from being downsized to sub blog off of Gizmodo , like Earther.
While I’m happy Oppos made FP I can’t help but think they’re on a sinking boat. I hope they bolster their name in the time they have.
I’ll be lurking on the discord.

Yeah, I hope it works out for the Oppos who just got hired as that’s the vibe I’m getting too....see you on the Discord, and hopefully wherever else we finally find a new ‘home’!

...wait, what? David and Torch are selling things now? (And are any of them Porsche parts?)
I still can’t find a full-time job, so I don’t know, man. I constantly feel like I shot myself in the bratwurst and meatballs.
I don’t have any visibility into Jalopnik’s situation anymore. I know Jim Spanfeller is a thin-skinned herb, though, so that’s honestly my first thought . He can’t control us and doesn’t seem to base any of his pettier decisions in reality, so myth 100% plausible. The lega lese smells like an excuse to me.

Yeah, I apologize. I can’t find that post right now but it was up mid-day with some pics— more shirts, coffee cups, “Jeeps and Shooting Brakes” kinda stuff. I didn’t dwell on it, but it looked like they wanted to make a bigger catalog.
But I can’t locate it at the moment and wouldn’t wish to cast aspersions.
But, Bradley wants to pitch a Radio Show?
I have no idea what the economics are like in all this... With, well you know, “being shut in a lot this year” you’d think site traffic would be off the charts good— it certainly hasn’t hurt Amazon, eh? But, like most things in Big Worlds of Business, I suppose bad strategy can’t be overcome with lousy execution nor with cuts.
I’m guessing there was an important business meeting, in a fancy restaurant, where the brand managers and Top Talent discussed ways to “optimize brand synergy”. There’s even video up on YouTube...

Ahhhh, expanded merch. Makes sense, then. The Jalopnik merch page has been a weird start-stop kind of project for years. It used to feel like there would be these initial pushes or calls for ideas and then it would just kind of fade into the background for a while, heh. Hopefully they came up with some cool stuff for it, though. Always seemed like an underused opportunity when we also made posts about how car-related merch was always so friggin’ dorky.
Brad’s radio show is something he’s doing for a local station that Jalopnik’s really just syndicating, though. Separate project, but with the full blessing to cross-post here.
The flip side to the general economic environment is uncertainty and reduced ad spending. A lot of the businesses that took a hit during the pandemic ain’t spendin’ money on ads at the rate they were before. So, every full-time job I was in the running for went on hold and I’m still in part-time/freelance
purgatory. I can’t ever seem to get ahead. Always the worst timing, always the worst luck. I don’t know what Jello Picnic’s circumstances are right now and wouldn’t want to comment on that, but t
he ads/uncertainty issue is
industry-wide.

You could always sell the souls and trinkets! Think big!
But alas, Bidniz Insider it is then. Or DeMuro’s personal assistant. Though I hear he hates Puffalumps.
*Slips Parsh Hot Wheels back in pocket*
Forget Jellopoopinic. They’re about to Chapter 11 themselves.

Fluffy would eat the souls, and there would have to be buyers for the trinkets, which there is not.
Fluffy picking a fight with DeMuro’s assistant is is, then.
