I just woke up (yes, at 2pm, yesterday was a long day and my bed was super comfy) and got the startling news of Oppos demise (which is apparently happening on November 16th? I don’t know all the details).

I’m already on the Discord but, like many people, I’m not a fan of getting rid of comment based things where I can make a post, leave the site for 8 hours, and then come back to respond. On Discord, if you leave midway, it’s a totally different conversation when you get back. Also, I don’t know who is who on there since a lot of people (including me) have different Oppo and Discord names.

Where do we go from here? What are we supposed to do? I’ve only been on Oppo since March and didn’t even find the site myself. I reached out to a handful of car magazine writers and Brian Silvestro got back to me and said this was the place to be. And it was. This is the best thing that happened to me in 2020, and if it’s taken away it’ll be the worst thing.

Someone already suggested we go out swinging, a big fanfare on the 15th, though I’m not sure what that would be. If anyone knows of other sites we could migrate to that’d be awesome, and I’ll sign whatever petition I must to keep this place afloat, but if this spells the end, we may as well enjoy the time we have left.

Well, I won’t be able to do that today. I have a crap ton of school work to take care of (so much fun...)

Discord is gonna be our staging ground. Lots of options on the horizon, but in the meantime, fragmentation is gonna be real to an extent. I’d say just keep in touch with as many Oppos as possible and we’ll make it through.

I’ve spent my afternoon making accounts and stuff, and Mastodon was one of them. Seems like everywhere we’re going has a character limiter which is a little poo, but it’s a temporary solution. Let me know if there’s anything I can do to help.

Will do...the Discord is probably the most active place to find current info, so hopefully people can check in there every so often if they won’t want to stay there for the time being (as a lot of folks don’t like the format) to at least learn what’s currently going on.

Yeah man! I live on 555 and driving it never gets old. I will say the northern half is very much more enjoyable on a motorcycle because in the car its very, very tight, slow, and a bit rough. The southern half is still very tight but its alot more fun as you can chain corners better and if you do it right can be very fast. I know every corner and bump of the southern half. Love it.

Right now, I’m pretty set on Drivetribe being a long term, if not permanent residency for our content. It’s the only place that I’ve found that doesn’t have a character count/is easy to manage (i.e. I can step away for an hour and come back without missing something).

Whatever the mods figure out, I’m absolutely down to do.
