24/7 Christmas music started today, NOVEMBER 5TH!
That’s it. I’m moving to Canada.

I’ve heard Christmas music in several stores already, starting this past Monday. Fortunately, no Sir Paul McCartney yet, that one makes me want to jab a pencil in my ear.

That’s why I’m fighting in the War on Christmas.
Any candidate who favors a ban on Christmas music and advertising before Thanksgiving gets my vote.

Is their normal programming so unpopular that this would improve things? The only “Christmas music” acceptable this early are Vince Guaraldi instrumentals because that’s just jazz.

I went to try and buy left over Halloween candy the other night.
In the spot where the Halloween candy was supposed to be there was a display of Christmas decorations.

They are the usual mix of top 40 and 80s/90s pop. Yes, the Vince Guaraldi Trio is always appropriate.

Yeah, the supermarkets don’t have leftover candy anymore. If you want to stock up at a discount your best bet seems to be to try on or right before Halloween. As soon as Halloween is past, that stuff is gone and the new seasonal stuff is in. Of course Halloween is no better, my local grocery store has had Halloween themed candy on display since August.

For what its worth, I think their is a direct correlation between how early the Christmas music plays and the decorations come out, and how screwed up the rest of society is.

Oh I’m already mentally ready to decorate because it makes me happy and I need something happy in my life right now. However...Christmas MUSIC is not something that makes me happy. Glitter and tinsel and lights and tacky ornaments and a comfy spot by the fire make me happy.

They play it because the licensing is 1/4 -1/3 of a lot of other songs, a lot of songs are in the public domain and if you’re a hohum adult contemporary many stations have an increase in audience.

I think there were some supply issues with some candies this year too. We had a shortage of candy corn/pumpkins (THE HORROR) and they didn’t even make fall or holiday Peeps.
I spent a few days before Halloween driving around trying to find candy corn. All the big stores were sold out.

Yes, they do us too, in their proper sequence. The day after Thanksgiving is when we start. My daughter and I often do the Black Friday thing, and then we get the tree put up and start playing the Christmas movies. The music is good too if it’s the right kind. I like the classic Bing Crosby, Andy Williams, etc.

We usually do some variety of the tradition. One year I made the turkey dinner early so we could have it as leftovers on the actual holiday, because the leftovers are the best thing about Thanksgiving.
One year we decide to spend the weekend roadtripping to Austin. The best meal we had was brunch in a cafe that Stef recommended to us.

I used to love working at Ruby Tuesday on Thanksgiving. They had a turkey meal for the holiday and we’d spend most of the day eating cookies and playing trivial pursuit with next to no customers. Then all the waitstaff would get cut and like 3 of us would be left when the place suddenly filled to the brim at 7 pm and we’d make a small fortune.

That sounds great. The small fortune part. Not the full dining room for three people part.
I remember one year we thought we’d go out for Thanksgiving, but we drove around and found that almost every restaurant was closed. We ended up at a Luby’s cafeteria in Mesquite. There were other families there with their kids too, all watching the Cowboys game over their turkey dinners. We talked and shared the same bond I imagine people in a refugee camp do.

The two stations are based out of different cities but have strong overlap. They are owned by different companies and are definitely strong competitors to each other. Both are normally adult contemporary.

I had the cassettes sitting in a box that hadn’t been touched in years. When I was packing up for another move, it seemed pointless to continue to lug this box along to the next place just to sit on a shelf in the garage. I sometimes regret tossing them, but they would j ust be taking up space.
Chariotoflove
> onlytwowheels

I once tried transcribing them to MP3 with an app. That wasted half an afternoon. Didn’t work. But I have a friend who made some with great artwork covers. I’ll keep them for that. I’m a packrat anyway. But your choice was best. Keeping CDs makes sense. Tapes don’t age as well.
onlytwowheels
> Chariotoflove
11/06/2020 at 19:10 | 1 |
I had noticed aging issues with the tapes prior to sitting in a box, so I expected it would only be getting worse the longer I kept them. I wish I had kept my vinyl that I gave to my sister. I think my sister still has that collection because she is a borderline hoarder.
