Alternate title: I just messed up the easiest job ever.

Busted a wheel stud while changing over to winter tires. It was of course the last wheel I was switching over. At least it’s an easy fix but damn that’s frustrating.

I’ve done two so far - it’s very easy. Get Lisle 22800 if you want to make it even easier. Or stack a bunch of washers and save $20.

Also, 28055AA003 for the stud, 28171AJ000 for the OEM acorn style lug nut.

The shop that overtightened them destroyed it :(

It seems easy enough. Just hope I can get to NAPA after work and they have some in stock. That is a ton for what is essentially a large washer!

Probably would have been me? Although I use a torque wrench so I’m not sure what happened. I had my car in a shop back in May (?) for an alignment but have had wheels off since then

There’s a big bearing behind the top cup.  The lug nut sits in the taper of the top cup and the entire thing spins smoothly against the bearing which is in contact with the hub flange.  Definitely not necessary, but its very nice!
