Hi all,
I finally got a Hemmings account and added an automatic email that’ll send me some new listings each day of classic cars under $ 7,500 bucks (a reasonable price once I’m stable and have something to save up for.
Here’s today’s entry:
I absolutely adore the Celica from this era, it looks almost like a DeLorean or some other edgy american muscle car. It’s a 5 speed manual, but the listing doesn’t say anything about the actual engine, and there are a LOT of possible combinations. You’ll be the winner of the day if you can figure out what engine is in there:
It just came out of storage and is mechanically sound... seems legit to me.
I get these emails every morning, so it’ll give me something I can share with all of you each and every day! Take care.

I’d still take the Alfa Berlina I posted yesterday.

Neat Celica though. Seems like much better condition than average and for not a lot more.

It’s the dual-badged Celica-Supra, so it’s got a straight-six.

Hmmm...
Takes me back to high school. I always liked those cars.

You know the Oppo rules Mr. Leader, Once you’v e posted a link to a car for sale more than 4 times on Oppo, you are legally required to buy it yourself. Refusal to do so will result in a swift and painful oil pan puncture.
You’re on thin ice.

2/4, better be careful or I might just become an Alfaholic.
Though I like my oil pans to be able to breathe freely hehehehe.

Should I lie to the UHaul computer and claim that’s a 6000 pound hitch when I rent the trailer?

It baffles me how folks like you know that almost instantly. Color me impressed.

It’s a little rusty I suppose... It’ll clean up, right?

I saw you post it yesterday and took a peak, though I don’t think I’d buy it because of how few there are. I’d feel bad driving (and likely killing) something that rare.
That being said, it’s a very handsome car (though it does have some design cues of a VAZ), though you better tread lightly or you’ll be the one buying it.

Well you would be “ruining” that Celica by driving it too as I haven’t seen one that nice like ever. Occasionally they come up for sale in half decent condition but nothing like that.
I can see a little bit in the roofline but the Fiat 124 style three box design was very popular at the time in Europe. I think it shares more in design with the Giulia it was based on.

I don’t know enough about these sorts of things to say. But it looks sketchy to me. I bet if you just spray painted it all with black rustoleum it would be fine, right?

So what you’re saying is that you buy a car only to ruin it, it just depends how long it takes haha.
I see the Giulia in the front end a lot more now, with little sprinkles of BMW in the front end with that dark grille that surrounds the headlamps.
Whatever mixture of cars it reminds us of, it’s incredibly beautiful (and for what it is, pretty reasonably priced).

There’s only one way to find out really, t hough I don’t know enough about it either. That’s why most of the cars I look at are wishful fantasies.

No, I buy a car to drive it. It just so happens cars sustain wear in the process. But cars were made to be driven, even old Alfas which, to quote Jeremy Clarkson’s famous words, were made to be the best car they could possibly be briefly .
You can really see in these photos how the Berlina was basically a toned down and larger Giulia as an executive saloon compared to the more sporty mid sizer. It’s more conservatively styled but carries over a lot of te styling cues.
I do think I prefer the scrunched look of the front of the Giulia. It’s like the headlights are straining to pop off the front.
