Spent today building this enclosure for the axle along with reinforcing the rear bulkhead. Also did some marking on the axle so the 4 link brackets end up being a small fraction off from each other rather then large.

Kinja'd!!!

The design idea, actual dimensions were figured in person

It’ll be a 4 link and panhard bar setup on this 07 v6 Mustang rear end, the 7.5" is not known for being strong but because of that they are dirt cheap.

Kinja'd!!!

Fuel cell could go directly behind the axle in a thin tall design, Id like 15gallons or more. On the other hand making a tank under the passenger seat would be arguably safer and better for weight distribution.

Kinja'd!!!

Everything to mount the axle is here as soon as I get myself into gear and make the links.

Something made me think you were going for the rear from a crown vic (already 4-link plus watts link, could be LSD, etc). The one you picked up should be fine, though “known to not be strong” and turbo 1UZ might not get along all that well.

I hadnt looked at these as an option in a long time. I forgot how DIY they were. Keep up the good work!

It ended up not being wide enough and none available locally, at which point it stops being an affordable option. Didn’t know it was already a watts link though, probably should’ve done that and ran spacers like im already doing on the front.

Figure ill swap in an lsd before these spider gears can grenade themselves, but mostly that it'll break traction before thats a problem

Kinda as hard as you make it for yourself, if this was using a miata drivetrain itd be alot simpler to follow the book instructions. In this case the book started collecting dust after the passenger cell was made

As a point of information o ur lemons car had a 3 link + panhard suspension which I found to be outstanding. It had two trailing arms, a center link to the pumpkin and a panhard bar. The guys who built it did a lot of research but I don’t think it would work for you as the center link was as I recall about 4' long and would need to go through the drivers seat.

W anted to use a 3 link but there’s no room to mount it in the trans tunnel and still have room for my shifting arm. Perhaps if the bar was bent and mounted low but thats another problem of if the geometry wo uld be any good with a 18" long bar

Volvo in the 80-90s had a 3 link that felt really good to me

A "built" 7.5 is only good for ~400hp. A factory spec one would be less, keep in mind that Ford ditched the 7.5 when the V6 Mustang bumped up to 300hp.

Damn, might bypass buying the lsd and save it for an 8.8 later

Yeah I consider myself pretty tough for even wanting to build a kit. I draw the line at making the whole thing from scratch XD

6.2 supercharged Denali truck. Replacing my rusty 04 caddylanche. The deal was to good to pass up. My SS got a 6.2 swap last year. But  it still needs a harness and a tuned. At some point the sc will get swapped to the SS. My 454 and th400 is looking to get put in a mud truck or jet boat.

Ours was an open gt with an alfa rear axle. The stock drive train with torque tube rear axle was removed and a Ford pinto engine with 5 speed and a alfa rear axle was installed using open trailing arms the long center link an panhard bar. It worked exceptionally well. However I agree that you could not package it on yours.

Your setup will be tricky as one would imagine that you would want compliance to offset the short wheelbase... .But with all that torque I wonder if a complaint rear would be to squirmy. Have fun with it.

Welcome. Don’t give up. I know it’s tough, but it will be awesome when it’s done!
