There are, in fact, very rare instances where Kansas weather forecasters are correct. This Monday I woke up to roads composed of ice with 1.5" of snow on top. My car was shod in 200tw Bridgestone RE-71Rs. It now has Pilot Sport A/S3+ on it.

I have been there, done that! I once went to an autocross in NJ the day before a big snow storm rolled in. To be quite honest, I wasnt sure that it would wait until I got home (2 hours away) for it to start. The funny part was that I went to the event with extra tires. However, one set was 100 TW RC1s and the street set summer tires (DZ102). Neither tire would survive any sort of winter conditions. I got home at around 8pm and furiously swapped on my GT Arctics before heading to bed. Car was covered in like 5 inches of snow come morning!!!

How does the A/S3+ do in snow? I don't plan to drive my 3er in the snow but it'd be good to know.

$280. Unfortunately there was/is a secondary leak from the oil pan but hey whatever it adds character. At least the car is drivable now and I made my track day.

Yeah so... I pulled out of my garage and got halfway down the street before getting stuck and what you see is as far up my driveway as I could make it after 30 minutes of struggling back up the slight hill to my house

I’ve driven two winters on mine (though I didn’t commute, even before covid, so take that with a grain of salt). Seemed fine, though I don’t think I’ ve ever driven them in heavy snow (they replaced Michelin Premier A/S, which sucked generally but performed admirably in 3+ ” snow one time I got stuck coming back from NYC in a major storm.) Dedicated snow tires would no doubt be better, but A/S3+ feels as good in the snow as any all-seasons I’ve driven.

I feel your pain, I had summers on my old ‘85 GTi track/rally/autocross car and I couldn’t make it up my small ass driveway with Direzzas. Had to change to snows in the drive.
Even with AS3+’s, I think
you’re a brave human. My wife and I hated those things on her Fiesta ST.

Care to comment on why you went with the all weathers on the larger diameter wheels? (not a back handed question, just curi ous)

First winter with my E46 wagon I waited until after it snowed to consider snow tires . The tires I was on included one nearly bald one on the rear (long story)while the other rear wasn’t much better and MAN that car was fun like that. Because it was awd and the fronts were ok it still got around fine, but it was SUPER tail happy as the awd in those is rear-biased . It was a little like driving with cafeteria trays on the rear wheels, except you could throttle steer it everywhere, and still save it.

Boy, you’re just inviting karmic disaster, aren’t you? News bulletin in June, biggest snowstorm to ever hit Australia.

Because they smaller wheels are wider and far, far lighter.

Big solid meh from me. They seem like decent all around tires.
