Every Halloween, Chipotle would have a steep discount if you go in costume after 3 or 4pm. The holiday price was $3, and they even waived the charge for guac (usually $2 or so) for the boorito promo. The proceeds went to charity.

But this year, it’s digital-only, and now it’s buy 1 get 1 free, and they don’t waive the charge for guac! There is also a limit. They are only giving out 500k promo codes, and you have to follow their social media (Instagram, Twitter, and/or the Chinese spyware named after a Kesha song)

All the restaurants are trying to drive traffic through an app. Saves labor costs, helps with order accuracy. It’s fine as long as the app is decent (looking at you, Taco Bell IT department!).

Times are tough out there for multi billion dollar international corporations

This just in: n ational corporation tries to track its customers and collect their personal information. Film at 11:00.

Seriously though, everyone thinks apps and digital are where it’s at, but sometimes you get more customer good will and business by just doing things the old fashioned way and not making them jump through hoops.

What’s wrong with Taco Bell’s app?  I find there are worse ones than that, for sure.

I think too many don’t know how to make an app improve the customer experience. They seem to put their own interests in advertising and locking in the customer base first. It’s bass-ackward.

They completely botched the launch. The first two promotions were disasters because they had not done proper load testing. It doesn’t seem to be usable with the combo restaurant locations. Unlike Chick-Fil-A or McDonalds, you still have to go through the drive thru, so it saves you no time at all. And for a while, it would let me get all the way to the checkout page before freezing and making me restart my order. I simply stopped using it.

I like to make my own burrito at home. Then I don’t even need to put on pants.

Quite a few places have done similar things with their birthday promotions. There were a couple that I joined because they were free meals or free with a drink purchase. Now, they’re BOGO deals and many require you to join through either Facebook or Twitter instead of just an email. I barely use Facebook and the only corporate account I follow are World of Outlaws and a couple of localish tracks. I don’t use twitter at all and really don’t plan to.

I joined one for one of the Mongolian bbq places because I really like it and my wife hates it. So I would go at lunch, but my drink get my meal, and be happy. Now it’s a BOGO deal. Plus, at first it was free all you could eat, then it became a free one trip though the line, and finally the BOGO. Granted, I only ever did one trip because I’m a master at ingredient Jenga and never needed more. I know me going in and getting a drink and free meal isn’t what they want to see, but I’m sure I was in the minority doing it that way.

From personal experience, I definitely recommend pants if preparing bacon.

Weird. I use it at least once a week without issue. I much prefer it over ordering in person because I can customize the order and have it actually right.

I will agree about the drive through thing. There are several fast food places around me that aren’t open inside, even though we have limited capacity dining in my state. That’s one of the things the Chik-Fil-A has done right. They have curbside where they’ll bring it out to you

Qdoba got free guac and queso for your burritos all day everyday.

Plus for me I vastly prefer the ground Impossible “beef” at Qdoba over Chipotle’s too-saucy/watery braised tofu they call sofritas.

Not sure if it’s a nationwide thing, but all of the Chipotles in my area fired half of their staff and switched to “digital only” ordering. You order thru the app and pick a time to pickup. On average, they’re running about an hour (!) behind schedule.

When you go to pick up your delayed-by-an-hour order, you’re greeted with a store that has 3 times as many people as usual, all sitting around angrily waiting. It’s a complete disaster.

The ones by me were digital-only during the early months of the pandemic, but now accept walk-in orders. However, you have to pay by card, no cash accepted.

The C hipotle near me has declined heavily. Super long lines and poorly cooked food. I think their turnover has increased a lot.

Also, they're now charging extra for a bowl with a tortilla on the side. :(
