I look through a lot of old picture collections. Is there any reason to have a jacket with six external cigar pockets, like oh yeah I smoke seven cigars in a row during the day so I need a custom chain smoking jacket?

The reason would likely be someone who works at or owns a cigar factory. They're constantly tasting. But also some people do actually smoke 5 or more a day which is what a lot of the medical data on cigars is based on... or was based on I haven't kept up.

Yeah, this is from an era when people smoked cigars much more habitually than they do now, not occasionally to relax or for a special occasion, but frequently throughout the day, because it was allowed basically everywhere indoors.

That’ s what those mediocre machine-made cigars like Dutch Masters Presidents were originally designed for, before people found other uses for them - you’re not smoking a $10 a stick premium cigar 5 times a day.

Maybe not fashionable but it's likely the only way to pocket them with no damage like a pants pocket would do. Silly outside of very specific circumstances though I agree.

well....id probably use it for 6 marker pens at work

and probably still go home with none

i dont know where the fucking things keep dissapearing off to

but i do know where to get more

(the secretary doesnt even goodmorning me anymore...just says markerpens? and i say....actually today i just need post it notes...then come back 5 minutes later coz huh..i swear i had marker pens when i left yesterday)

I have tons of sharpies, when you work on a show they are used for a lot of things and people leave them all over. I have many. Packing tape too, they use some and leave it somewhere. I would collect them all and throw them in a box.

My dad smoked 3+ packs a day for decades, and wouldn't leave the house without at least four packs with him. This is the cigar equivalent I reckon.
