Delivered the latest foster dog to her new owner yesterday afternoon. We feel relieved. She was a sweetheart but scared of the world and prone to peeing at the slightest provocation. We even had to take care of her during heat until she could be spayed. We still considered failing, and keeping her.
So that was more than 2 months of spending a lot of time on the foster. Now we can go camping again, but it has cooled off a bit much for my wife. One year ago we bought the Outback and immediately went camping . . . And it was too cold for her preference. And also for our forever dog’s preference.
Glad to have had the Outback for a year, it has done well, including having room for the foster dogs.
I was thrashing the GTI around a traffic circle and got understeer on Saturday night despite my aftermarket sway bar . . . But the tires were still cold and I was accelerating. Still, someday I’ll likely replace it with a rear wheel drive car, maybe the next BRZ. I definitely want to have more of a gap between car purchases, so I’ll wait.
[Edit:] Oh, plus I’ve changed my bookmarks for Jalopnik to point at The Drive instead. Really should have done that a long time ago, unfortunately.

That is the assumption. It seems very clearly the case.
The guy who surrendered her to the shelter reportedly stated that if they didn’t take her, then he would take her home and shoot her. That’s why my wife and I immediately said that we would foster her . . . she was not going to do well in a kennel situation for more than the one night that she was there. I think we gave her a good bit of confidence back, but she has a long way to go.

At the very least, someone had no clue what to do with a puppy.

A VW product is usually not the best for tail happy FWD enjoyment but a roundabout is hardly the best place to enjoy oversteer unless you do left foot brake (which might not work on a modern VW).

I just wanted it to stay planted, but I was overdriving the tire conditions as well as the particular road geometry . Clearly, I would still risk overdriving the tires of a rear-wheel drive car in various conditions because it would be the same nut behi nd the wheel, but I’m up for a change in vehicle dynamics. Now I need to wait . . . but the GTI is plenty of fun in the meantime.

You might also go faster in this particular roundabout at the understeer limit of this GTi than you would at the limit of a BRZ.
I don’t know what kind of roads you have around you but i would definitely choose a good FWD over a BRZ where i am.
ps: and too still front swaybar (if you upgraded it as well ) will also make understeering easier

I replaced the rear sway bar in order to get the rear stiff and easier to break loose to balance with the front. I’ve driven it with this set-up for almost 2 years, and i t works well in most situations, including autocross. But this is still fighting against the engineered behavior of the car.

We just failed our 5th foster this past week. She was just too sweet to let go.

Congratulations! Does that mean that you successfully fostered four others, or that you’ve failed and kept five total?

I hit up The Drive much more often than Jalop, but I still check it out. Diff authors and diff stories still worth checking out. I also check Car&Driver and occasionally Road&Track.

Successfully fostered four others... though if it were up to my wife we would have ALL the dogs.
