So, better looking in person, or worse?

Still incredibly ugly. I went to the dealership earlier this week and thankfully didn’t see any of those. Just a bunch of SUVs and these.

It looks surprisingly okay in person. With a small grill the 4 would just look like the 8 Coupe. I still want to see the non-M Coupe and M3/4 though.

In my opinion, yes. Just like Bangle era BMWs people will get used to the looks.

People keep saying that but I still think the E6x is fracking ugly.

I like it in black on black. It looks mean.

The black one looks fine, as in still unnecessarily uglier than it should be but at least not actively repulsive like many a Lexus. I think Carwow had the only press color combo I could tolerate. Throttle House had a black one I still wouldn’t buy, and Car and Driver got a disgusting blue one.

Yeah I think that will happen with these, too. And I care more about how it drives than the grille anyways.

Blue with black trim is always the best color scheme for a BMW, it at least helps the pig nosed 4 somewhat.

I think not outlining the gauged nostrils in chrome is the better approach. No benefit in bringing even more atten tion to their garrish selves...

Your dealership was like “order all of ours with the blacked out trim around the grille!!”
It does help quite a bit honestly.

Saw a new Z4 in the flesh/metal AND a new Supra the other day. The Z4 looked.. ok. Nothing special to my eye. The new Supra looked just as ugly as it does in pictures to me. Was not expecting that since everyone keeps saying how much better it is IRL.

Most people, myself included, seem to agree the Bangle cars aged well. Some disagree, and that’s their right. But for all their brashness, the Bangle cars kept the important design elements that made BMW recognizable: the Hoffmeister Kink, strong shoulder line, and classic RWD proportions. Whoever’s in charge of the new cars (is is still Von Hooydonk?) seems determined to remove these elements. Some of the new cars look attractive enough, but they just look more like everything else on the road. The giant grille sure screams “Look, I’m still a BMW!” but the rest of the car doesn’t.

The darker colors seem to hide the schnoz pretty effectively. The M4 grilles go up much higher and create a “wake” over the hood, which these don’t do. These 4's look pretty nice!

i see the grill as a way of taking the attention away from those squinty angry headlights. the grill is one thing, but mixe with the headlights from an audi and foglight/air intake from a civic TR, is what bothers me
