This is an Airbus A 320.
This is a Focke-Wulf Ta-152. By way of digression, this particular one has an unusual history in that it was captured by the British at the end of WW2, repainted crudely and test flown by the legendary

who was awarded the Knight’s Cross of the Iron Cross for his exploits in amongst other things dispatching a considerable number of Allied bombers. He survived the war and indeed 72 years of peace after it, dying only in 2017.
Finally, we find a Messerschmitt Me 262. Yes, of course Eric Brown flew one of these too.
All of these were made in Germany but that’s not all they have in common.
Airbus is a multinational consortium with a long and complicated history. This family history includes Messerschmitt (as part of the helicopter division) and Focke-Wulf (satellites). For good measure Airbus also incorporates the remains of Heinkel and Blohm und Voss.

I had a long talk with an F-35 pilot at an airshow once, and we talked a lot of military history. He said, “History doesn’t necessarily repeat itself, but it does rhyme.”
Also, Winkle Brown was a certified badass. I love his comparison of the Spitfire and the Mustang:
“The Mustang was a good fighter and the best escort due to its incredible range, make no mistake about it. It was also the best American dogfighter. But the laminar-flow wing fitted to the Mustang could be a little tricky. It could not by any means out-turn a Spitfire. No way. It had a good rate-of-roll, better than the Spitfire, so I would say the plusses to the Spitfire and the Mustang just about equate. If I were in a dogfight, I’d prefer to be flying the Spitfire. The problem was I wouldn’t like to be in a dogfight near Berlin, because I could never get home to Britain in a Spitfire!”

It’s crazy to think Eric Brown’s career spanned from the piston-powered WWII fighters to the F-4 Phantom and other planes still in service today .
