Think this thing will weigh
3 tons?
I’m guessing it will be
slightly
better than the

of the H2, but maybe “
only”
~
50 MPGe.

Based on my rough math the battery alone will weigh between 2500 - 3000 lbs.
Also about 60 mpge
(200 kwh / 350 miles range) x 100 = 57 kwh /100 miles. 3370/57 = 59 mpge

Write it down. I predict this thing’s gonna weigh WAAAAY more than my 1T Express Tow Rig.
I’m thinking north of 7250 pounds. It’s the primary problem with the “big battery solution” to range... it’s really not sustainable.

Oh, this is gonna weigh WELL over 7000 pounds. Easily.
Look at it this way. H2 was over 6400 pounds. Deduct 75 0 pounds of LQ4, 4L60 and gas. Add back 28 00 pounds of batteries and motors.
It could weigh over 8 000 in that trim.
This is why the Musky Semi is years late, too.

Model 3 Long Range: over 2 tons
3.5 tons for the Hummer might be a stretch, but I could definitely see more than 3.

Insane... Will be interesting to see if they were able to “add lightness” anywhere to get that number down, and how poor the MPGe numbers are as a result of the mass.

I can't see a situation where a chassis version of this vehicle weighing less than 3500 lbs. Probably closer to 4000. Add 2800 lbs of battery and yeah... Close to 7000

And, for the $110K, we’d better expect it “contented up” with power everything, screens galore and extra power electronics.
I’m really, really curious where the CyberTruck team is on weight now. By the time they can get it to pass crash-safety, with an inefficient steel-skin design (in a world gone to aluminum and composites) and 500 mile range? Ugh. I bet it’s well over 7000 as well.

It also has 8 lug wheels. This thing is going to be built like a 3/4 ton truck at least, but with a tiny bed not meant for hauling a lot of weight.

This heavy EV thing seems like it would cause safety measures to increase, you suddenly have very quick and heavy vehicles. We thought kids were dangerous drivers before, now you have acceleration on par with some sports cars and weight behind it. Can you put a speed limiter on these EVs in the computer? I don’t have kids, I never thought about that.

oh it’ s definitely a bespoke chassis. Independent drive units on sub frames with independent suspension all round. Im sure the new tahoe/burb/escalade designs went into it, but it looks unique. You should see the half shafts on this thing, makes a 200 series axles look puny.

Im curious to how the overloading world / you will react to this thing. Apparently it has extraction mode but this looks flawed to me. Plus in that mode it won’t have much wheel travel and then theres the weight of the thing. Cool product, but dont know what actual use this will serve.

yeah model x is 5500lbs and the battery is 100kw and 1200lbs...add another 1200lbs minimum and were already at 6700. those wheels and tires are likely considerably more heavy for example...add it all up...it’s pretty close if not heavier than 7000lbs...

The overloading world...actually very accurate. Anyway, this is basically a SxS on steroids. Fun as hell , takes you around town, will work great off-road. Sucks everywhere else, makes you look like a numpty .
I’ m not saying it won’ t be livable, I’ m sure it will be. but in terms of its mission of off-roading? It will only be up for daytrips with suitable charging infrastructure at home. I’ m in off-road world here in Utah and 350 miles of range would barely get me to the trails. Im doing a trip in a little over a week that it simply couldn’t do. Even if you fully topped it off in the nearest “big” town (green river...good luck) you would be stretching your range crazy thin just to do the short trails over 3 days we’re doing and get back to green river.
and you can’t really bring a generator, this thing is going to go through 1 kwh/mile out here (their own range estimates come out to 57 kwh/100 miles or roughly 600 watt/hr per mile...in best case conditions) and so you would have to run a large (highly polluting ) generator for hours just to get a gallons worth of gas range. a 5k generator running for 4 hours (ask me how much it sucks to listen to a generator at camp for hours) would net you 20 kw, or roughly 20 miles. We’ll be doing WAY more than 20 miles a day.
My take is that this is GM’s low risk way to introduce an EV truck. Instead of Ford’s “It’s an F150, but electric” GM is going full Tesla to build excitement for the idea that EV’s can be awesome, t he same way the Model S did...but for truck people. “1000 hp! 3 seconds to 60! 15 inches of clearance!” Where truthfully the F150 model will be where most people will want to shop, this is the EV truck halo that GM is hoping will put them in the game.

Lots of cool “ features and modes” so you don’t notice them charging you $100k for it to get some R&D money back.

I was surprised by the number of charging station in the canyonlands. I saw them in Blanding and Bluff, and passed a few more in random spots off of the 191. I think there actually is one near Green River. However, they need to focus more on range and less on power for it to be a serious contender. Give me 300 hp and 600 miles of range. That’ll make up for the lack of being able to bring fuel cans.

You’ve dug in more than me on it so I will defer. (In a happy note, btw, I just managed to re-acquire the first LC I ever owned— a bone stock FJ80 with 3F-E that had bounced around the extended family for 10 years. I’m thrilled to get the damn thing back— it’s nothing special but happy memories.)
I always find the torque-to-wheels stuff weird in EV Land — I bought that 4500 series D-max recently and it has a massive rear drive shaft. So, I figure if the D-max makes a (modest) 500 ft-lbs at the crank, first gear takes that up with a 6:1 ratio in first to 3000 ft-lbs, (hence the monster drive shaft) THEN with 4:11 gearing I’m over 12,000 ft-lbs even before I throw in the 2:1 or 3:1 of the torque convertor.
it’s not that I’m not impressed with high torque DC motors, but they don’t REALLY (at least in EVs) put that much more torque to the drive wheels... do they?

The bloody nannies!!! Well limiting the really powerful cars to safe speeds isn’t a terrible idea, who needs to go 120 on a highway. It’s a whole new conversation. Don’t take my freedom! But if you did get caught going 120 you go to jail, that is your right!

cars that will allow you to limit max speed in the settings
(or have a chime that goes off if you exceed it).
