Get my car back, start it up. Airbag light is on. Walk back to the service department.

“Hey, my airbag light is on now.”

“Well was it on before?” he asks with a twang of sass.

“Nnnnnnope!” as I smile through my mask, bottling in my annoyance.

“Oh okay, sometimes that happens, he just needs to reset it, should be five minutes.”

[Update]

Manager just came out.

“Exciting day!”

“Oh?”

“The new airbag is defective and we don’t have any others. And the other dealers won’t part with theirs since they are ordered from their customers who are already scheduled.”

“Ah.”

“So weeeee have to order a new one...”

“Alrighty.”

So they’re putting back in the old one that WON’T deploy at all versus the new-new one that may deploy incorrectly as it is defective.

Weeeeee-heeeee-heeeeee yeah!

Thoroughness.... in the end the dealer called and said they “didn’t feel comfortable” swapping over the tires as they may damage the rims.

Whenever I give somebody else the care/custody/control of my cars, I always document everything.  Including lights, odometer, avg. speed and so on.

I have very low expectations when I have to have anything done at a dealer or a trade come to the house in terms of timing — perhaps often the service. I had a friend lined up to pick me up and a friend lined up to drop me off. I scheduled no stops today for work and I had earphones in my pocket. I was prepared to be pissed off, so I was only disappointed.

I get that you don’t want them screwing with your car but I would have demanded a loaner car because essentially you’ve brought your car in to have them swipe the airbag and send you out with what statistically is a vastly more dangerous car than the one you arrived in.

Not so. The airbag they tried to replace is the original replacement which will likely not deploy at all. The new new one is defective and may deploy at any time. The original one was the takata bag which was replaced a few years ago.

So what I’m hearing is it is a deathtra p no matter what. I'd rather not choose any of those ace adios but I guess probability of failure to deploy is the least worrying. Man they really keep messing this up, don't they?
