Kinja'd!!!

Two months ago I dropped off my Outback at Rallispec in New Jersey to have a new built motor and 6 speed transmission installed. The plans started pretty simple, mild upgrade to the internals, TGV delete, upgrade the injectors and oil pickup, etc. At some point a big Bloush turbo was added to the list, along with an upgrade to the intercooler, downpipe, and entire fuel system. Today I finally get to learn the sum of its parts.

Any predictions? In her previous configuration she made 200 at the wheels.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

UPDATE: it took a while to get the dyno results because the guy who built my engine, who is also my point of contact at the shop, wasn’t there for the session (he had to fly to California to build the motor for Bucky Lasek’s white GC).

Assuming all guesses were whp unless stated otherwise the winning guess by Price Is Right rules goes to gmporschenut with his guess of 337 h p. Absolute closest though was BeaterGT, whose guess of 350 was only off by two. The Outback put down a whopping 348whp/339wtq. Corrected this comes to about 425 bhp. That said, thanks to the SI drive I’ll normally be keeping it at a pedestrian 280whp (345bhp) for daily use and only toggle the big powah button when it’s needed.

The plan is to pick up the car at the end of next week, along with another. But more on that later.

302 at the wheels and 400 at the crank on a conservative tune.

This was my neighbors WRX and on stock internals he had 400hp at the crank. He also had a Forester suspension. This was the loudest daily driven car I have ever heard and I heard it every night at 11pm when he got home from work.

I’m quite jelly but I also think you should lower it to make a Legacy wagon.

I was fine around town with the 90hp or so (altitude corrected) on my 98 Forester. Would’ve been nice to have more power trying to merge onto the freeway.

Dang. En visioning 348hp in my old Forester!

The angle isn’t as aggressive stock. When they put on the new unit they angled it more and added ducting to the backside of the hood scoop to increase airflow. This is how it looks stock.

Very easy. Apparently the tuning process leaves a gap between S and S# by default. They actually usually raise the power level under S afterwards so the difference is less dramatic but I asked them to leave it because I feel like that's perfect daily driver power.

The unique/weird location is very cool. Also can’t be as effective with the extensive ducting as a front mount is .

Kinja'd!!! Dusty Ventures > VincentMalamute-Kim
10/20/2020 at 00:38

Kinja'd!!!0

Not as effective as a front mount, but certainly far better than the horizontal stock one. Also on the Outback installing a front mount means removing the bumper bar, which falls firmly under the category of “no thanks, I choose life.”

I don’t know if you’ve seen this, I’ve put it up on Oppo a few times. A very long time ago, I turbocharged a Grand Caravan and liked the weirdness of a minivan hoodscoop and top mount intercooler.  The weirdness is why I like that rear mount IC.
