My radios tend not to last very long thanks to the frequent rain during the summer with the top off.

“That’s what marine radios are for,” I hear you say.

Well, I thought so too, but the unit I tried lasted less than one summer before buttons started failing, and I replaced it entirely by that winter. Now I just go with cheap units, so I don’t care so much if they die at a young age.

This last one managed to survive 2 or 3 years, and while lamenting its demise, someone here pointed out that a Bluetooth amp would allow me to run my audio directly from my phone while keeping the sensitive electronics hidden in my dash. Problem solved!

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

Except, of course, for the human factor. I managed to lose an important fuse box screw, blow a fuse, and finally short out my battery trying to install it today. So, after 6 hours, I have a bunch of mostly-complete wiring, an amplifier that barely fits in my dash and probably isn’t blown, and a strong aversion to trying again.

I suggest disconnecting the battery before servicing electrical components in the future. Good luck and hope it turns out to be a successful endeavor.

I think it’s time for a rechargeable Bluetooth speaker and Velcro to hold it on the dash.

I did, it was upon assembly and testing that things went awry.

I’m honestly not sure I’ll ever try again. I’d rather live without audio than risk destroying what’s left of my electrical system.

That would work in a quieter vehicle.

New plan then; buckle this beauty into your backseat.

Regarding the picture, the problem is you aren’t using the right tool. This is what you need

I was thinking of making a place under the dash of the truck to just hang this. I think my friend is putting a couple cigarette lighter sockets under there. These are waterproof and pretty loud, we had one on the side of a building doing graphics and it was impressive.

One of the best purchases I ever made was a self-adjusting wire stripper. Holy fucking god I love that thing.
