They all look similar . Maybe trying to monitor several channels at the same time? My ICOM-702 does this automagically. And the heat this thing puts out will warm tacos just fine. Did he upgrade or add a relevant alternator?
Sparrow’s got an ICOM-802, fully clipped, with Pactor modem as well. We use a 150amp alternator and the original 40amp to keep house and motor batteries charged.

This is me on any vehicle I have instrumented. I had just two ETAS boxes in a car recently measuring just one CAN and I may as well have been this picture
