American Murder: The Family Next Door (Documentary, Netflix 2020)

Straight forward with no twists or turns. Just a gradual reveal of truth and a test to see how quickly you realize things really are as they seem. Top marks for the footage but just okay as a movie. 6/10

Gretel and Hansel (Thriller/Horror, 2020)

I liked this one more than the critics did. Lighting and cinematography are hauntingly beautiful. It’s all about the details of what happened in the house. Sophia Lillis does pretty good with her part as Gretel while Alice Krige does even better as The Witch. Great casting all around. 7/10

The Devil All the Time (Drama, Netflix, 2020)

The painting of an atmosphere surrounding a group of characters and ultimately the fate of the main character. A cool concept but it seems every character’s only purpose was to feed the main character’s narrative with no real backstory of their own. I don’t feel like I know who Robert Pattinson’s character really was. They all come across as cardboard and cold. To me the star of the show was Riley Keough. 6/10

Hubie Halloween (Comedy, Netflix, 2020)

I was hoping for a new holiday classic and walked away disappointed. It had some moments though (just a few). 5/10

The 40-Year-Old Version (Comedy/Drama, Netflix, 2020)

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

Unfortunately I couldn’t find a gif to post for this one. Radha Blank is absolutely hilarious! She plays a “washed up” actress that flips the script to try her hand at rapping. The movie became more dramatic as it progressed. This only helped draw attention to her co-star Peter Kim’s lack of acting and timing skills (borderline train wreck). I usually only rate thumbs up on Netflix if I find a movie awe inspiring. I made an exception with this one. She should write, act, and direct more. Good beats too. 8/10

Yes, last night I watched Baby Driver recorded on YouTube TV for the first time. And in the past month I’ve also watched Inception, Tenet, and Interstellar for the first time as well. Nothing you wouldn't know though.

Spoiler alert:  Had to turn off American murderer when he started talking about killing his kids. I hope that guy fuckin dies, soon and slowly.

On a lighter note. If you haven’t watched the fyre festival documentary on Netflix, please do it. Sure it’s full of the worst kind of people but it is interesting and parts are so funny. The pilot is my favorite guy and sadly one of the more sane.

I have stood where many o f the scenes were shot so it was especially enjoyable for me. There was a lot of “oh hey I’ve been there.” I’ve even driven some of the roads. It was a really great movie I thought.
