My grandmother and I went to Indianapolis from where we both live in Owensboro, Kentucky on Monday. My aunt and uncle (her son and daughter and the only ones left of my grandma’s four kids) live up there.
Meemaw, as I call her, is in good health but she is also 88-years-old. She was nervous to make the trip, but she really wanted to go to see her son and daughter and each of their home s.
I updated the navigation in the 6, checked its tires, picked her up, and off we went.
We took Highway 231 all the way up, so no interstate. Average speed of 60-65. The 6 made it there, around Indy, and back home on one tank of gas. Averaged a solid 35 MPG.
Where my aunt lives is fascinating to me. It’s so flat. You can see for miles - unlike relatively wooded and hilly western Kentucky where I live. At my aunt’s house, it feels like you’re in the middle of nowhere. However, the decently sized town of Greenfield, Indiana is barely 10 minutes away.
Have some photos.
Also. The 6 is at 51,000 miles now. One year ago today, we were in Florida on fall break and I hit 44,000 miles. Poor thing stays in the garage most of the time now.

I love places like that where it feels very rural and picturesque but it really isn’t too far from a place where things exist. Except the places like that I know are rapidly vanishing and aren’t nearly so flat. It’s very pretty.
