...That this PHEV is the best selling PHEV in the world?!

Kinja'd!!!

At least the interior doesn’t look as cheap as all Mitsubishis have over the last decade:

It was the only crossover PHEV for a super log time wasn’t it?

That has to play a huge factor.

American Mitsubishi’s were specified and built to the price that Americans were prepared to pay for them...hence their 'qualities'. The Outlander on the other hand is (in PHEV format) a US$40,000 vehicle...so it has to try to feel it.

I don’t know about the best selling , but this thing has existed forever and is pretty popular especially in Japan and the markets that JDM vehicles get exported to on the used market.

Beats me.  I just surprised that Mitsubishi is winning at anything.

Those are pretty nice, there are a couple in my area I see parked. They look just fine to me. I had a CRV before but I would have had one of these.

True, but no bonus points for getting to Hyundai/Kia interior levels for $10k more.

It generally hasn’t been that way here apart from the notable exception of the old Mirage and the early  AS X.

Mitsubishi Triton may well be the most popular privately purchased (non-fleet) vehicle in Australia...and the third highest selling vehicle overall.

Too bad FCA doesn’t have a partnership with Mitsubishi anymore, because the Triton could easily be sold here as a rebadged Dodge Dakota  truck.

I imagine a lot of them could be government purchases. I know the municipal here have quite a few of those.

It could still get there if Nissan thought there was a market and suitable margin for it as the next Frontier...

I own one of those.

B ottom line is it works fine, rides nice, allows more control than most PHEV systems, fits 5 + a dog, and is very cheap. After tax credit, min e was ~$ 25k (MSRP was 36k , out the door was 31k, tax credit is 5800).

C urrent tank is at 88mpg.
