So I’ve got two cars I have to store this winter, the

and the

(my

can sit outside I’ve decided and

will be in daily driver duty) and I’m looking to do it as cheaply as possible without getting a Harbor Freight carport that I’ve been told basically disintegrates after the first snowfall. Current options are:
1. Spend $195 to store the Beetle and $300 to store the newport (it’s based on length) but I can’t get the guy to get back to me and he’s the cheapest guy, although I did just send another message.
2. Spend about $600 ($300 each) on carports, and have to put them open door to open door because the Newport would be too long for its carport, and would have to cover the gap with a tarp or something.
3. Spend like $1000 on a two car carport. This would be the best option for being able to do work on the cars over the winter but it’s soooo much money. Also pretty sure I’d have to clear space on my land for this as opposed to having at my grandparents where the cars are now.
I guess I’m just checking to make sure I’m not missing an option. I will say that living in New Hampshire, snow is a guarantee, and with a car port I gotta go out and poke the roof every time it snows too. Anyone have any input? Also if you’re in New England and want an extra car to stare at all winter in your garage let me know haha.

One of those Newports is on my life list. Grandma had a ‘68 as her last car.

I’d say pay for real storage. I’ve seen what New England winters do to car ports with soft
roofs;
they just don’t last. I would see if you can find a farm that might have a barn to store your cars or maybe a regional airport that might have an empty hangar
. Best of luck.

Long time no see! I don’t really have any input on this but I’m in the midst of some winter storage pondering myself.
I technically have a place where I could storage my Buick during the winter but it needs some major work done to it and that place is just too far for that to happen over winter. That leaves me with two options: do I rent out a small garage that can barely fit the car while working on it at the same time or do I pay more for multiple times bigger outdoor lot that I can fit with tent garage (replacing that with a container garage when I can afford it.)

I have no idea what prices are like, but have you checked in to good weatherproof car covers? I’m not sure how much protection soft-roof carports offer for real winters. In the midwest most of the carports I see are metal, and those run a few thousand dollars.

From what I’ve heard the carcovers aren’t a good option because they get wet and then freeze to the car. If someone else has had a diffent experience I’d be willing to listen though. The Beetle also has a pretty huge exhaust that wouldn’t fit under a cover.

but before that my last
post was January 2019 lol
Yeah I’d like to get my Beetle running again over the winter and most storage places won’t let you work on em once they’re up. Roll em in in October November, pull it out in April

You said that you have land. Refinance your mortgage, take out extra cash and build an actual garage. Figure ~ $20k for a basic 2 car one. Take advantage of low rates and high property values to potentially keep your payment the same or not go up that much .
It’s like free money!

I live in Maine. Some of my neighbors are snow birds and are willing to let other neighbors store their toys in the empty garages, usually just for the price of keeping an eye on the place while they are away. Find your local snow birds with a ga rage.
