It’s Wednesday. To help get over the hump, show me your favorite cover art for a single/album. It doesn’t have to be iconic, just good.
For instance, the band Highly Suspect’s album The Boy Who Died Wolf uses this absolutely stunning image. It’s also very fitting for the album too.
And their prior album’s cover was done by what must have been the same artist.
These two images are just so perfect for the album in addition to being visually stunning.
The title of “weirdest” could go to Marcy Playground’s album Marcy Playground (what a weird name for a band too”.
And for some reason everyone I know dislikes the cover of Cage the Elephant’s latest album, Social Cues.
I think I can see why.
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
So, Oppo, what are your favorite album covers? I could go on and on but I’ll leave the rambling up to you this time.
EDIT: Dangit almost forgot this one. Schm ilco by Wilco. Look up the artist’s name in the bottom corner.

I’ve been recently buying some ‘new’ vinyl releases of remastered stuff, some of which is ~20 years old or younger, so wasn’t broadly released on vinyl initially (other than $$ short run editions). It’s all $$$ these days.
But I do still enjoy putting a record on a turntable, and playing it through a real amp and speakers.

Pink Floyd is iconic but I don’t know the other two. They’re pretty good though. That’s not quite how I picture the War of the Worlds alien machines but pretty close. The script is rather whimsical for the scene depicted.

I know what you mean. It’s so rewarding to be able to physically play the music on a turntable and get that tactile feedback as you place the needle. It puts you in a mood to really appreciate the music more, I think.
That reminded me of this album I gave my dad on vinyl that I totally missed. Look up the artist’s name in the bottom corner.

I mean, there are hundreds of iconic album covers from the 70’s through 90’s alone when the genre was at its peak and the medium was attracting the most highly sought after pop artists. Not to mention the resurgence in the post Napster digital age. It’s hard to constrain this topic of discussion other than “ here’s a few cool album covers that I can think of right now without posting 20 of them”.
The Magical Mystery Tour cover is neat but kinda typical of the era. The costumes are intriguing and sparked the whole McCartney is dead conspiracy. You didn’t happen to mean the Sgt. Pepper cover?

Ah, yes, that. The Beatles had so many iconic covers it is difficult to think of just one.
The point of this post was “here’s a few album covers I like without posting 20 of them.” Like this one:
It is interesting how much weight just the cover can pull though. I once saw a shirt in Target that was this image except with Star Wars characters. Considering this band’s recent single featuring Elton John and 6lack that’s not the most unusual thing that’s happened but still.
Looking it up was basically just pages and pages on GIS of altered version of this image.

Also, this one. The album is iconic but it’s the back cover that really caught my attention. As an Army brat I was very taken aback by the fact that they’re standing on the American flag, but one listen and I knew exactly what the fuck it was they were trying to say.

I also really liked the Boy Who Died Wolf album cover. My first one is a recent band I’ve gotten into. Idk why but I just love the painting. Plus it was d rawn by another band’s, Circa Survive, Guitarist.
Second, because super iconic. From the polaroid to the handwriting and I just love the old Chrysler minivan.
I’m sure I could list more but these two came to mind first.

That’s front and back of the Paradise Theatre album cover . The album is built around the story of the rise and fall of a theatre through it s life. It’s kind of a metaphor for the ephemeral nature of physical things and how everything changes. The songs are pop-rock classics.

First one is very striking but I love the gritty realism of the second image. I’m on my phone so I can’t show you (maybe look it up) but it reminds me of the Black Keys album El Camino which features an old Chrysler minivan with faded woodgrain in an indus trial area. The single from that album Gold on the Ceiling had a really great picture of the abandoned Rolling Acres mall in Akron Ohio that I love.

I had to think about this for quite a while...
One that I really like is Blue Oyster Cult’s “Fire Of Unknown Origin”, because not only is it really good but we finally get to see what the Blue Oyster Cult looks like! In fact, Blue Oyster Cult has a lot of good album art now that i think of it...
Then there’s the cover for Brand New’s “Daisy”, which... I’m not sure why I like it, I just do. I think it captures the vibe of the album very well somehow.
Foster The People has a lot of great album and single art as well...
And then there’s Saint Motel’s “My Type” which is simple, but fun.
And there was one album cover from the 70s that I found at an antiques store once with awesome 70s font everywhere and what I assume was the band standing around an old 50s car. Unfortunately I can’t remember the name of the band, so I can’t find the album :(

Actually I don’t think I’ve ever mentioned saint motel here before... I discovered them somewhat recently. They don’t have a lot of music out yet, but what they do have is pretty good. I have mentioned Blue Oyster Cult here several times before, as they’re my favorite band. I still have yet to hear a song of theirs I don’t like:) Here’s some more of their fantastic album covers just because:
Fun fact: That plane is an ME-262, a reference to one of the songs on the album.
Club Ninja wasn’t their best album (although it did have a couple good songs), but the album art was very fun.
